Marriott's Ko Olina Beach Club: Hawaii's Best Resort

This is a class resort with an adjacent top quality hotel. Our family has stayed in the resort and found that all of the amenities are top class from the lagoon and beach to the restaurants and food service to the comforts of each villa. The neighborhood on the west coast of Oahu leaves much to be desired but within the gated community, it is safe and luxurious. The golf courses are superb in quality and challenging, The swimming pools add comfort away from the ocean beaches.

Best Western Coconut Waikiki: Nice option in Waikiki

This was me and my husband's first time in Honolulu, and we made our reservations through West Jet Vacations as part of a package with the flight and car rental. We chose the Best Western Coconut because we like a hotel that is not too expensive and a little different on the inside, rather than your average hotel with a nice lobby but rooms that look like they're out of the 70s. The hotel was recently taken over by Best Western and renovated in a modern, minimal style in hues of green. I was pleased to see that the rooms kept up with this theme. We had a City View King room, which has a small fridge and a sink in the main area, as well as a microwave (which I really liked for heating up leftovers) and dishes and cutlery. I did find the bathroom to be too small and the light was rather dim. I usually used the mirror in the bedroom area to do my makeup since there was more light in there. The bed was too hard for my personal taste, the sheets and blanket were kind of scratchy, and the pillows were too thick. There is free wireless internet in the room, which I always like, but it was a little bit slow at times. There is a little balcony with two chairs on it.

The front desk staff were pleasant, but I wouldn't say they were ever extremely friendly. I did overhear them helping out some other guests with directions and activities and they seemed to be giving thorough and helpful information. There is parking at the hotel, but it is valet only. The cars are parked in a private lot right under the hotel, which is nice for peace of mind, knowing it's not being parked in some above ground lot blocks away. Plus, whenever you request your car it is there right away. It is, however, $22 US per day. There is a managers reception every Thursday between 5-6pm featuring Wii (which nobody played when we were there) and free cocktails they call the Cocotini.

Continental breakfast is complimentary, but it is not exactly adequate. There is cereal, hard boiled eggs, fruit, toast and oatmeal. We ate there most days, but it was never enough and I usually had to eat about an hour later. It's not very good if you plan on spending the morning on a hike or at the beach where food might not be available.

The location of the Coconut is quite good. Waikiki Beach is only about a 5 minute walk, and if you stay on Lewers Street you walk through the Waikiki Beach Walk. The hotel has free beach towels available for guests to borrow. There is also a small pool at the hotel, but I never ended up using it and never saw anyone in it. There are also a couple of computers in the lobby with internet and printers.

HI Waikiki: Great location HI

I only stayed briefly and moved out, their facilities were useful and necessary after a long flight.
Check in was nice and easy with pleasant reception staff, and the rooms were clean and a tight fit sometimes.
One the whole, with not too many budget hostels in Waikiki. Its an ideal location and price for the economic traveller.

Jurassic Park Rental! http://www.vrbo.com/45480: Living with the Martins

We last stayed in this little rental we found on http://www.vrbo.com ... usually the base is the place for us... but this place is nestled back in the mountains on a dead end road... you wake up to the stream flowing down the mountain and the sounds of the Hawaiian wildlife (aka roosters) and it's a very pleasant and relaxing place.

Unique Quality: Full kitchen! Save money by eating in! There is NO AIR CONDITIONER... which I thought would be horrible... but amazing enough it stays pretty cool in the mountains... a good steady temp that is always comfortable, so long as you are not running the oven for hours!

JW Marriott Ihilani Resort and Spa at Ko Olina: Outstanding Marriott Resort Property !!

This is truly a top of the line hotel in the Marriott chain. The service was exceptional at all levels. I was actually a bit surprised at how nice it was. Being a Marriott Platinum Rewards member and traveling all the time at their "normal" properties, you get used to a certain expectation. This hotel FAR exceeded any preset expectation I might have had. The hotel is isolated from any commercial areas, so you really depended on the resort quite a bit for things such as food - - and they don't disappoint. There are three restaurants on the grounds not counting pool bar area. All of them were exceptionally good with Azul, the AAA 4 Diamond award winner, being outstanding. Our room was on the top floor with a beautiful view of west and of course the sunset everyday. The balcony was spacious with a lounge chair, two regular chairs and a table. Also, there was a complete wall between the next rooms so you were very much private. The bathroom was equal to any in which I have ever stayed. Separate room for toilet, two sinks, bathtub, and two person standup glassed in shower stall.

Unique Quality: The hotel sits on a man made lagoon which is wonderful. It allows fresh seawater in but is built in such a way, you really don't have to be on the look out for sharks and such. When we would go wading or swimming, you definitely would always see some sort of fish swimming in there with you although they were of the peaceful variety. There is also a very nice pool area. The hotel is connected via sidewalks with more Marriott properties and it is nice to walk the length of the pathways which total about 2 miles roundtrip. They also offer a spa across the street. It has an additional pool, tennis courts, and a basketball court. There is a golf course as well. This whole resort is behind a gated community and it is very very nice. When we were checking out, the NFL football players were checking in for there appearance in the Pro Bowl.

Kai Aloha Apartment Hotel: Ku'u Home, Almost

We always stay at the Kai Aloha when we go to Honolulu because, for us, it's the next best thing to home. It's simple, clean, and comfortable.

"Our" apartment has one double bedroom and one bath, with twin beds in the living room that double as couches during the day. It's especially good for families with children, because it has a kitchenette where you can prepare meals (thus saving money), and there's daily maid service and use of the washer and dryer on the ground floor. There's air conditioning, but we didn't always need it -- you can open the windows and let the trade winds blow through.

Smaller apartments are also available for couples. Please note that the price below is per person for a family of four.

The Kai Aloha is centrally located in Waikiki, half a block from the beach and the post office, and within walking distance of the International Marketplace. The Bus runs right past the door. If there's anything you need or have questions about, Miss En Chang in the front office is very accommodating and a wealth of information.

Waikiki Beach: Waikiki Hotels

The dozens of Waikiki hotels are within a few blocks of the beach. Waikiki is just a couple of miles long and less than mile wide. There is a canal on the north side and the ocean on the south side. It is great walking up and down the beach and streets day and night.

Unique Quality: clean, safe city with friendly people
