Travel Tips for Honolulu
Beat the Airline Food Blues
by Hopkid
Tired of airline food? Definitely not willing to pay extra for it? Then be sure to stop by Ala Moana Shopping Center on the way to the airport and go to the second floor of Shirokiya, the Japanese departement store on the Macy's end of the mall. Get one of the prepared bento lunches and take them on the plane with you. Not only will other passengers be jealous but the flight attendants will be too!
Cost: $4-$10
Shirokiya is on the east end of Ala Moana Shopping Center near Macy's. Prepared foods are on the second floor.
Massage and Total Relaxation
by Suet
The old lady headache had set in at the Polynesian Cultural Centre and I was terribly lucky to find a qualified masseur who knew what he was doing to melt away the tension. The fact he looked like one of the Surfer Gods on the beach was an added bonus...... sigh..... if you can find him, he is worth it. His name is Isileli M. Tukuafu, Massage Practitioner, LMT does 'E Lua Lomi Lomi, Swedish, Spinal Touch......tel no (808) 282 9143. Call him and book an apointment, you won't be disappointed.
Price? oh just a donation.... no fixed fee. Eh, I think my best memory was watching the waves and the sheer power of them. Also the discovery that the beach sand was made up of millions of pieces of crushed shell.... finding small shells on the beach, the sound of the shell leis in TropicGirl77's car as she drove around the island, the sun and warm breeze...... now you are making me want to book another trip!
Waikiki:that's the tourist...
by Gillianina
Waikiki:
that's the tourist area. Wonderful ald lively place, with great shopping centres
(I recomend you the Royal Hawaian) and breathtaking beaches. By bus or by the
'reliable' (damn it!) waikiki trolley you can go to Ala Moana Shopping Centre:
it's a dream!!!!!!!! I feel a little bit ashamed in saying it, but....the beautiful shopping centres such as Ala Moana!! Then sipping a fantastic cold cappuccino with wipped cream at Starbucks, getting lost due to that stupid Wakiki Trolley!! Staying at my cousin's place, eating the pumpkin pie, her wonderful family, never finding something not fat to eat, missing Italian food..LOL...Man,I loved there and would go visit again at any time :)))
Go to the North Shore. Waimae...
by TTimmy_
Go to the North Shore. Waimae Bay is the best place on the island for sure. The Pipeline is an awesome place to watch surfers too. Also, spend the 4 bucks and go to Hanaouma Bay. It's a fish reserve and the snorkelling there is the best I have ever seen in my life!!! I am going to miss seeing the whales. In Feb/March they come to the islands for birthing. We saw mothers and newborn calves all the time, right off the coast with the naked eye, but if you have it, bring a zoom lens and a good pair of binoculars!!!
The Magnificent Coastline
by Sweetberry1
See as much of the Coast and Island as possible. I confess, Waikiki Beach gave me a real buzz also. I enjoyed spending time on the beach, after all, it is probably the most famous beach in the World ;-)
But what awaits beyond Honolulu, is even more beautiful, the rugged beaches, some quite isolated. It is here that you feel and inhale the real Hawaii.
The Arizona Memorial was great to visit, incredibly interesting.
Try to be there by 7am, or you will be queuing for hours ;-) I miss the wonderful friends I have made while visiting Oahu.
Also the lifestyle, the Music, the aroma of the flowers, the feel of the breeze in my hair, and ofcoarse the incredible Sunsets.
Questions and Answers
Q: Oahu Ghost Tours "I keep hearing about Oahu Ghost Tours. Has anyone been on one of their tours? If so, how was it? Was it cheesy? Really spooky?..."
A: "I think my sister-in-law will be taking a ghost tour while on the island during the second week of May next month. I'll post here after I get her feedback."
