Hanauma Bay has the best snorkeling I've ever seen. Lots of fish in shallow water for beginners. Good reef in deeper water for folks with more experience. Amazing fish. Great water clarity. Tip: Get there early! You HAVE TO sit through a 10 minute safety / enviromental movie before they let you go to the beach. Later in the day, lines get long, and you might need to wait up to 2 hours to get to the beach from the time you get there. If you're planning on coming back, give them your name when you leave, and you can bypass this step when you come back.
A cab ride is about $35 from Wakiki Beach. This is the best way to get there if you have more than 2 people and you have your own gear. If you don't have your own gear, go on one of the many organized snorkel shuttles.I tried out my underwater camera case for the first time on this trip. Here is a sample picture.
