xmas vacation ruined by aqua marina
my wife and i spent a week at the aqua marina durring this past xmas and were disapointed as we we were put out on xmas day and told our room was booked for that day, i had it booked thru orbitz travel until the 26 but they said they could do nothing. After 2 hours on the phone
with orbitz ans the aqua marina they gave me a room in one of there even more dumpy places the Kuhio towers and then charged me for the room afteri had allready payed for it thru orbitz. The staff at the
Aqua marina were verry rude as not of much help for anything. i would pay a little more and avoid the hotel if i were you as they do not care about the customer. in short i think the place really sucks for doing this to me on christmas. they lack the aloha spirit.
I was very pleased with my stay at the Aqua Marina Condotel the week of
Mar. 20-25, 2005. The thing I appreciated most was the beautiful view and
the security of using the elevator. Each person has to have a room card
to be able to use the elevator. The pool was very clean and inviting. Should I return to Oahu, this would be my place of choice to stay. Two wonderful resturants are just across the street, Red Lobster and The Outback. For a quick fast food break, McDonald's is on the corner of the
talk about ghetto..
my family and i went to oahu for a MUCH NEEDED 4 day weekend summer vacation.. Everything was going as planned.. great flight (w/ early check in).. nice car.. until.. we get to the Aqua Marina Hotel.. that was when everything went bad..!! after an exhausting day.. we would wind down in a pig stye.. The room seemed like it wasn't cleaned for days.. when we stepped into the room, it did not feel welcoming at all.. It was just Dirty!! It smelled horrible.. the sheets had makeup and dirt stains on them.. the coffee table had crumbs.. and the cabinets had cigarette butts in them.. WHAT A PIECE OF FILTH..! to make it worse.. during late hours.. no one picks up for guest service.. SO, you're pretty much on your own after hours..!! There is much needed renovating at this place.. it just seems too ghetto..! The people i dealt with were respectful.. but it doesn't make the experience any better if your stay in a room was not so accomodating..
do not ever stay there!
We pre-booked a room, approx. 6 weeks in advance, requesting an ocean view room...When we arrived, not only were we redirected to another building, but we were not even told it was another hotel called "Hollywood Bungalow" located next door!
Not only did we get a room with an alley view, facing away from the ocean, but the air conditioner unit was broken with missing knobs, the shower
stall was extremely moldy with a rusted out grate, and the toilet was an old metal
toilet (like that in a public restroom) with the flushing lever mounted on the wall!
Old sheets & cover on the bed, with antiquated TV for static filled viewing,
and 1- 4 ounce packet of instant coffee for the coffee maker, with additional
coffee packets at a dollar extra!
When the management was approached of this rather grievous situation, they offered nothing, not even a reduced rate!, to make up for this, stating that they were all booked up! and since we had pre-paid for the trip, we had no choice but to take the room!
Please, do not even consider this establishment when choosing a place to stay in Honolulu, I would save you the pain & embarrassment, there are so many better hotels to choose from, and this is NOT one of them.
Second Class Guest at Waikiki Marina Resort
I just got back from our stay at this hotel. Here are some information to help others who may stumble upon this place:
-Waikiki Marina Resort owns a block of 80 rooms at the Ilikai Hotel (Renaissance) which they rent out separately.
-We got a 3rd floor room on the Ilikai tower with no view.
-Some of the amenities of the Ilikai that are availalbe to "regular" guests are not available to WMR guests.
-There is no bell service or valet parking for WMR guests. The Ilikai staff will not help you if you mention that you're a WMR guest. I was given a cart to haul our luggage a long way across two buildings and into an elevator to our room.
(Funny thing: Since I was wearing a hawaiian shirt and had a luggage cart, I was mistaken for a bell boy several times by other guests.)
-You CAN'T use room service if you're a WMR guest.
-However, you CAN charge meals to your room at the two other restaurants in house.
-The WMR seems to have their own maid staff as our rooms were cleaned late in the day, only after I saw the other maids leave our floor.
-No in-house concierge. There is a guy across the street (outside travel/activities agent) that is available if you need anything.
-Front desk was only open limited hours. If you need help at night, you'd have to leave a message and wait until morning.
All this being said, the Waikiki Marina Resort was listed as a 4 star hotel on Hotwire. I would rate the experience a 3 star at best. The Ilikai is a bit old and would probably be a 3.5 star in my book, but since we felt like second-class guests at this resort, I would only give it 3 stars.
If you can get this for a 3-star price and can live with the above mentioned details, then it is probably a fair deal. Otherwise, I would consider other hotels such as the Prince Hotel (4.5 stars) next door which we also stayed in and highly recommend.
Gross, Gross, Gross!
Talk about a dump- this is it! We had reservations at the Aqua bamboo- but needed an early check in to which they could not accomodate. But offered to put us up at their "sister hotel" this one. We arrived- the lobby looked nice and clean, but the ride in the elevator should have told us the picture. Small dinky stinky elevator, takes you to the top when you enter into a dark dimly lit hallway. We got one key, and when we opened the door could not beleive how tiny the room was! We were on transit and only needed the room for 10 hours- and we tried to stay out of the room for as much of that time as we could. But, we have small children, who needed naps/baths and dinner before the red eye back home. The room stank of bleach, the carpet was stained, the bathroom smelled to bad- it was somewhat cleaned- but had that old musty towel smell from the old and spoiling plastic shower curtain. I made my little kids bath with their shoes on it was so gross. For how much it cost us ~$115 (even though we stayed for less than 10 hours we had to pay a full days rate) we could have stayed at the sheraton down the road, if we planned better and made a reservation earlier.
Lesson learned- NEVER AGAIN! Disgusting- no matter how you look at it.
Much like some of the other reviews posted on this site regarding the Waikiki Marina Resort at Ilikai tower, we also felt that we were treated as third rate guests. Our issues started the minute we got here. We were traveling with an elderly couple (separate rooms, of course) who upon getting their room key on the 18th floor found that their key didn't work and had to wait in the hot hallway for someone to bring them a new key.
There was a guest book in the room with useful information including that there was no need to bring your own towels to the pool area as they would be provided for you there. After asking to receive a towel at the pool we were told that our rooms do not get this service.
The concierge service is located across the street below the Starbucks. We went to get our coupon books and basically just had them handed to us with no welcome or smile.
One of the things they advertised was a two for one meal coupon for Tanaka of Tokyos. We went to eat at this restaurant (which was great) and were told that this coupon could not be honored because it was actually a copy of their coupon. I brought this issue to the front desk and they simply said it wasn't their issue and we would need to take this up with the concierge service.
While sitting by the pool we also asked to receive an ashtray and some water. The waitress said she was busy and pointed out the water cooler to us for water. We went to paddles bar and asked for the ashtray and they said they were out of them and gave us an empty soda can.
Our room wasn't cleaned the first two days we stayed here. We finally asked the front desk about this and they indicated that upon check in you need to specify how often you would like to have your room cleaned. Once we explicitly said we would like to have our room cleaned at least every two days, the cleaning staff wouldn't come in until at least 4PM.
Our shower light was burnt out when we arrived and we were told this would be fixed. It took three days before this actually happened.
We don't consider ourselves to be very picky guests which is why we decided to give this hotel a shot even after some of the other reviews. After actually seeing the service you receive and the way you are treated, we would never stay at this hotel again.
