Moana Surfrider: Downtown and on the Beach

by VeronicaG

This stately hotel is the oldest in Waikiki and still very appealing! The Moana Surfrider is located along Kalakaua Avenue, where souvenir stands blend with COACH handbags. It sits along the shore of the Pacific Ocean and is located in the middle of Waikiki's prime shopping area, which is loaded with restaurants.

There's been a great deal of preservation, while tweaking it with modern conveniences. We loved the hotel's courtyard--a relaxing area sheltered by huge trees and directly in line with ocean breezes. A long veranda contains another seating area.

My husband and I enjoyed a glass of white wine by candlelight and listened to the sound of the crashing waves. There are a few shops within the hotel complex and lovely winding halls with intimate seating areas.

Hilton Hawaiian Village Resort: Part 2--A winning combination

by VeronicaG

The Hilton Hawaiian Village offered the opportunity to hang ten with surf lessons. Our grandson regrets he didn't attempt lessons, but for $90 you'll receive a 1/2 hour of instruction from an expert and 1 1/2 hours on your board waiting for a decent wave.

I look for a shady spot when we visit a beach, so for $70 we rented one large umbrella, three lounges and one boogie board...in my estimation, worth every penny ( pic #2)!

REMINDER: Our guidebook alerted us to bring water shoes, because there are small rocks strewn about the ocean floor. Believe me, you needed them. I packed shoes for my husband and grandson and forgot my own--ouch!

Hilton Hawaiian Village Resort: A Perfect Combination!

by VeronicaG

Hilton Hawaiian Village Resort has everything to make one's visit to paradise memorable--a wide, sandy beach, casual eateries and finer restaurants, excellent shopping, Friday night hula demo and fireworks over the ocean. We spent a good deal of time here because it had everything we wanted!

When traveling with the family, it's the perfect location. Not only could you rent lounges, umbrellas, floats, inner tubes or boogie boards, you could also take surf lessons.

My husband, grandson and I spent all of one day at Kohana-moku beach where gentle waves lapped the shore and a coral reef divided the swimming area from the ocean. You'll find a generous beach with plenty of room to spread out with your lounges, towels and totebags. An added perk: Diamond Head was visible from the beach.

We returned several times to pick up special gifts for family back home. It was such a convenient site in every way. The location puts it steps away from the shopping district on Kalakaua Avenue, should you want to venture out for additional shopping or variety of dining choices.

If we were to travel here again, we would definitely want to stay at the Hilton Hawaiian Village.

Location--near the ocean and trendy shopping!

Hilton Prince Kuhio Hotel: Posh, but not Ocean front

by VeronicaG

Although a city block from the beach, the Hilton Prince Kuhio serviced us well. The rooms were bright and comfy; the balcony came with a mountain view and our breakfast was included.

The hotel had been recently renovated, so all of the touches had that fresh look to them, with updated decor and sleek bathroom--shower only. Elevators were operated using one's room key, which also gave entry to the breakfast area, fitness rooms and hotel pool.

Shampoos, conditioners, hair dryer, alarm clocks, quilted bathrobes, small fridge, security safe, built in dresser and adequate closet space were amenities we appreciated. I had requested extra pillows, which were generously brought to the room.

The lobby was spacious with many seating areas and concierge desk. A second level travel station was provided from which reservations could be made for various activities.

Hilton's Prince Kuhio was a pleasant home away from home, but if we were to do it over again we would definitely stay at the water's edge.

Outstanding service from hotel staff and valet staff

Waikiki Circle Hotel: Affordable beach view Hotel

by iammon

This is a nice little hotel with an affordable beach view. The location on Kalakaua Avenue (main tourist and shopping street ) is great. Everything is in walking distance (Restaurants, shops, zoo to name a few) The rooms are a bit on the small side but clean and comfortable. Bear in mind that it is located on the main road therefore it can be a bid noisy with open windows (there is quite a difference between the 3rd floor and the 11th as we recognized as we stayed there twice).

Price was 170 $ with tax for a nite for an ocean view room.
Staff is helpful. Only coffee included for breakfast but lots of possibilities close by. Free newspaper everyday and beach towels. Parking is limited and is 10 $ a nite. Whole Hotel is smoke free. Check in at 3:00 p.m. Check out at 12:00 p.m.

It is almost an art deco kind of hotel with special character. It was founded by a Chinese woman and was in family hands for a long time. Now it is part of the Resortquest group.

Aloha Paradise Inn: Rent a condo

by Lhenne1

The Aloha Paradise Inn rents apartments by the week. While you don't have daily maid service or a hotel bar, the Inn is quiet and relaxing on the Windward side of the island, located in Kene'ohe. We comfortably fit 5 people into a 3 bedroom apartment for a week, for the fraction of what it would have cost us to get hotel rooms.

The owner of the Inn is friendly and even brought us fresh caught swordfish one day. Located on the lagoon, visitors can borrow kayaks to go exploring. Only a few miles from Kailua beach, there are also coolers and boogie boards to take along with you.

Rooms were clean and very spacious. Our apartment had 2 full bathrooms and a large kitchen with a washer/dryer for our use (cost $1 ). The owners welcome pets and the large layout makes it a great place to bring kids.

The view from the lanai is breathtaking. That alone makes the location wonderful.

Hale Koa

by MacPac

You will like the Hale Koa and they have very affordable parking there if you decide to get a rental car. I haven't been to the Hale Koa Luau, but I've heard it is pretty good. If you are going to be here on a Sunday, you really must make reservations for the Sunday morning Hale Koa brunch buffet. You won't need to eat for the rest of the day after pigging-out there! You can easily walk to the rest of Waikiki from there and you could also walk to the Ala Moana Center.

Go through the Hickam AFB outdoor recreation office for super discounted tickets for events and attractions. Or depending what branch of the military you are in you could use their outdoor recreation office. I don't know if the Hale Koa has a discounted ticket counter in the lobby or not.

Turtle Bay Resort Estates: Turtle Bay Resort

by heat1968

Turtle Bay on the North Shore of Oahu is very nice.

If you are a golfer, it's got a great course to play.

We stayed in the estates NOT in the Resort/Hotel, and there's a little difference
Although the condos are very nice, you can't 'walk' to the beach, you have to drive your car.

But the reef protected area on one side of the Hotel was perfect for swimming

Close to the Bonzai pipeline to wach the surfers!

Not many places to eat unless you travel a few miles

ResortQuest Waikiki Beach: Fantastic Beach Accommodations

by kel_e

Right from our arrival, I was in love with our hotel. We were there for our 2-year-late honeymoon and they were more than willing to give us an ocean front room, but there were only ones left on the 5th and 6th floor. Those floors had a blocked view from trees. So, they insisted that the ocean view room we had was much better. They were right, we loved our view. We were on the 23rd floor and could look down to the pool, the street and a fantastic view of the ocean and Waikiki Beach! They gave us champagne and glasses for our honeymoon. They give everyone mesh coolers that they encourage you to fill up with their complimentary breakfast in the morning. Hot and cold foods, excellent selection! It's actually called BOB (Breakfast on the Beach). They want you to be able to take your breakfast with you, whether that's out on the beach or back to your room. The pool was nice with seating all around. There was a bar/restaurant with outdoor and indoor seating right near the pool. You can also borrow beach towels from down by the pool. We exchanged ours every day and took them with us to the beach or when we went driving around the island. They had nice music every night. We barely had to venture from the hotel... although we did and you must! The room had nice comfortable beds, internet connection, nice bathrooms with hair dryers, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, safe in the room, refrigerator, flat panel TV, nice balcony with chairs and a table and chairs in the room.

Seriously, I have no complaints at all! I don't know what I would complain about if I had to find something.

Breakfast on the Beach with cooler, fantastic views, friendly people
