Nice Cheap Hostel 2 blocks from Waikiki Beach
by starbreeze7 about Hostelling International Waikiki
The hostel staff is extremely helpful and patient in pin-pointing directions for the clueless and directionless backpackers like me. There is a full kitchen and TV room, shared by hostel dwellers, and dorm room has 7 beds, one bathroom with a long bath.
There are lockers in the room as well and everything is extremely clean.
Overall I had a wonderful stay, and got to know a lot of other backpackers. Great value. It is 2 blocks from Waikiki Beach! And I am talking RIGHT in the best part of Waikiki Beach. There are hula dances at the beach at 6:30pm every night...and think about this..this hostel is just 2 blocks away from this spot!
And it's only $20 per person per night in a 7-bed dorm.

Putting you right in the midst of Waikiki, the best thing this place has going for it is it's location. Be prepared to be woken up by a host of things though. The garbage collectors and recyclers come in regularly to empty bins of bottles and glass from nearby clubs. So you get to hear all that noise, as well as traffic and noisy neighbors if you have them. The building is older, a remnant of a different era of Hawaiian tourism. I also found that there were less lockers than need be - I think I recall getting the very last one (thankfully). The kitchen and communal areas are decent.
This place is pricier than it's Manoa location, so if you don't mind paying more for less, go for it. Located right in Waikiki.
