Travel Tips for Albion
~ WELCOME TO ALBION, IDAHO ~
"~ A BEAUTIFUL RUSTIC WESTERN WELCOME SIGN ~"
The small rural Town of Albion, Idaho is 8-miles east on Highway 77 from Declo, Idaho. One must travel up a 5% winding "grade" to get to the Town itself, which is nestled against a backdrop of hills. The name of "Albion" is a archaic word for the island of Great Britain, but was drawn out of a cowboy hat in the year 1879. Currently, the "Albion grade" traveling to Albion on Highway 77 is under construction, and a proposed "widened" grade & road work is being done after all these years.
~ CAMPUS DORM BUILDING AT ALBION COLLEGE ~
"ONE OF THE LONE DORM BUILDINGS LEFT STANDING"
Albion State Normal School was established in 1893, in Albion, Idaho with a large Campus of Dorms, Class Rooms, a Gym, and large beautiful Campus grounds.... including a Football field. A photo of one of the majestic remaining buildings on Campus at the "old Albion College." The College was officially closed in 1951.
MILLER HALL 1901 AT ALBION STATE NORMAL SCHOOL
"~ CAMPUS BUILDING AT ALBION COLLEGE"
Miller Hall, build in 1901 is one of the Historical attractions at the "Albion State Normal School" which was established in 1893 for Teacher Training, in Albion, Idaho. Although Miller Hall is "boarded-up" now, & stands desolate, it has a solid brick & rock foundation, amongst many huge old Pine & Oak trees that were planted on the Campus years ago. Miller Hall sits beautiful amongst the Campus grounds, & a definate part of the "past" History of the Campus. It is also a quiet retreat to sit on the steps of Miller Hall in the shade, & to reflect back on what "once was..."
~ ANTIQUE LAMP POST & VIEW OF ALBION HILLS ~
"PART OF THE PAST, STILL STANDING AT ALBION COLLEGE"
One of only two very old glass Lamp Posts are still standing at the Albion State Normal School, that "vandals" have not destroyed on the School Campus. These Lamp Posts are huge, & constructed of solid concrete posts & very old glass bulbs. Vandals have broken out what is remaining of the glass features on these beautiful antique Lamp Posts that once stood proud throughout the Campus grounds. Luckily, there is still glass in the remaining two on Campus, to be photographed, before they become... forever History.
