River Rafting on the Payette River
by Nor_Cal_Brad
I went rafting down the South Fork of the Payette River, about 50 miles North of Boise, Idaho. We took a guided river rafting tour with the Cascade Raft Company, and it was a lot of fun. You can also go kayaking; we just went rafting. We took the tour called "The Rush" - a half day trip down the Lower South Fork. There were calm periods during our trip, and there were also some pretty good rapids. We went during the 1:30 PM tour, and it was hot, but the river was cold, so it worked out pretty well. A morning tour (starts @ 9:30 AM) or a full day tour (starts @ 8:30 AM) seems like it would be a cold trip down the river, so I definitely recommend the afternoon tour. If you go through a rafting tour company, you will be provided with everything you need. If you are already an expert rafter going on your own, then you know better than I do what equipment you need to bring. I do not think you should take this part of the river without a guide if you aren't an expert rafter.
The state capital.

I know all you guys out there think that columbus or Des Moines is the capital of Idaho, but unfortunately for you, it's Boise and this is our treasure of a capital building with plenty of marble and politicians to go around.
8th Street Marketplace
by atufft
A couple of blocks west of the Capitol Dome, and then nearly to the river, 8th Street provides a wealth of side walk restaurants and shops, and provides the venue for the Farmer's Market, street musicians, and many other street events. Sometimes the street is blocked off for vehicles, but typically the narrow street is slow going for cars, while bicycles reign supreme. The architecture of the buildings in the first 3 blocks is mixed, including many renovated late 19th century brick and stone structures, 1930's era art deco store fronts, and inbetween new high rises. There are several good Java houses, ice cream shops, wine bars, fresh brew beer joints, pastry shops, and so on. Some good upscale restaurants are also here. Further down the way, newer developments with brick paving in the street and plazas with fountains can be found. The Grove Plaza is the most notable of these newer developments, which is covered in the next tip.
My new home... for a while... :)

"GO BRONCOS!!"
This is my new home. My husband and I are going to school here, so we will be living here for at least a couple of years. IT is funny how things are.. Growing up I knew that I would probably travel a lot, since traveling is one of my biggest passions. But I never imagined that I would be living in any other place but Fortaleza, BRASIL. And here I am... In the last 5 years I moved from Brasil, to Iowa and from Iowa to Idaho... And most likely... we will be going to Alaska for a while, and then, somewhere in the lower 48. It is weird not knowing what exact location of the map my life is going to lead me to... But... It will be a exciting adventure.
Anyway... Boise, ID has been my new home for the last yar and a half, and I am sure it will be my home for at least a couple more years. I really like here and I will make the best of this experience while I am living here!!! But since I have been moving so much, I don't have a scanner yet... But I am hoping to add new pictures to my new pages and update my old pages soon. Keep coming and travel with me!!!
