What A Pleasant Surprise
Choice Hotels are seldom a possible choice for a hotel when I look for a reservation. Their hotels are seldom places I would consider staying because they are often run down and in need of substantial improvements.
However in Idaho Falls the Sleep Inn is a diamond in the ruff. Located just outside of Idaho Falls on the !-15 the hotel at first sight looks pleasant and inviting from the outside. Freshly painted with an outdoor barbeque area it looked well maintained. Going to check in both of the two check in clerks were extremely friendly and helpful. I watched a young male clerk handle a particularly difficult customer with understanding and aplomb.
Our room which consisted of two queen beds was on the second floor and faced the freeway. Not overly large but with a microwave and frig. A little tight to maneuver and not the best choice of colors or design in the room. However the room was spotlessly clean. The next joy was that the bed was extremely comfortable as I laid down before going downstairs. There is also a small gym on the second floor of the hotel which met all my workout needs and was also very clean.
Evening receptions are becoming more common at many of the nicer hotels nowdays. However the Sleep Inn evening reception was unique. Served to us were three different soups that were all outstanding. A noodle soup, clam chowder and some form of bisque were all home made and something that you would only find in an upscale restaurant. In addition, there were warm cookies and a light salad that was provided. In a word they were outstanding. I cannot recall the name of the soup cook but she is without a doubt a golden asset to this hotel. Despite requests from guests for more soup, cookies and salad she effortlessly listened and responded to their requests with charm.
Despite being relatively close to the highway we both slept well. The shower had plenty of hot water and all the necessary bathroom incidentals were provided.
Breakfast in the morning had a number of choices including cereals, toast, fresh fruits, muffins, yogurt etc. There were also a couple of hot choices. Everything was well prepared and items that became empty were quickly restocked. Very good coffee as well.
We paid for the room using Choice Privileges points. However the cost of the room had we booked it in advance would have been just $ 90 plus tax. A good price considering the soup/salad/cookie dinner would likely have run us $ 25 with tip in town! A definite bargain.
All in all, a most pleasant experience and if ever in the area I will definitely stay here again.
Unique Quality: The evening reception was absolutely excellent. The homemade soups were fantastic and the two ladies that worked in the kitchen were very helpful.
This place while a hotel operates like a modest hotel should. Friendly front counter, kitchen and maid staff make this a hotel that others could learn a lot from.
Directions: Driving from any either east or west, take I-15 to exit 116 (Idaho Falls). The hotel is can be seen from both the North or South lanes of I-15 and is located adjacent to the Southbound off ramp.
