Travel Tips for Idaho Falls

My birth town

by Segolily

I'm proud to say I was born in Idaho Falls. My parents didn't stay here long, and I only remember it from trips we made to Yellowstone or to visit family. I've seen it more since my son has been going to school in Rexburg, but still only enough to say it is a good place to stop on the way to Yellowstone for a night or for food. In the spring the water is high enough to flow over the catch basin and you get an idea of what the falls used to look like.
On the fourth of July there are fireworks over the river. We have also stopped at the little museum in town when they had a special exhibit. It is worth a visit.

Idaho Falls- Craters of the Moon National Monument

by minorzwarpath

I spent an overnight in Idaho Falls on my way to Craters of the Moon National Monument in 2001. The town is very pretty, with a nice walkway following riverway through the center of town.

Craters of the Moon National Monument was spectacular, with lava fields as far as the eye can see. Exploring the underground lava tubes was a highlight. The world's first nuclear reactor is also a worthy nearby attraction, as are the Shoshone Ice Cave, and Mammoth Cave (other underground lava tubes).
