Island Park, Idaho is located southeast Idaho along the Idaho & Montana border and Continental Divide. The West Entrance of Yellowstone National Park and West Yellowstone, Montana are just 30 miles away.
Island Park is a mountainous recreation area with an abundance of year round outdoor recreation opportunities. World Famous fly fishing on the Henry’s Fork of the Snake River or the near by Madison River. Henry's Lake is a beautiful lake on the northern end of Island Park and is famous for its fishing and large trout. There is also a fish hatchery on the north end of the lake that helps produce and replenish the fish habitat. Be sure to visit the fish hatchery in the spring. Contact one of the local outfitters for guided fishing.
Enjoy some bird watching at the Natures Conservancy Flat Ranch or Harriman State Park or a beautiful drive to Red Rock Lakes Wildlife Refuge. The first weekend in August Island Park hosts the Crystal Brothers Rodeo. West Yellowstone also hosts weekly rodeos or enjoy the local play house and some shopping. Horseback riding is also available in the Island Park and West Yellowstone area.

Aside from the outdoor activities, Island Park's scenic and historical sites are some of the other popular activities. Be sure to visit Mesa Fall, Big Springs & Johnny Sack Cabin. From Island Park you have access to four of Idaho’s scenic by-ways; Mesa Falls Scenic Byway, Teton Scenic Byway, Fort Henry Historic Byway and Lost Gold Trails Loop. Be sure to take the self guided driving tour of the Madison Earth Quake area, stop at the Visitor Center, Refuge Pointand the Ghost Village and learn about the Earth Quake of 1959.
A nice river float is available on the Big Springs National Water Trail or float down the Buffalo River. Yellowstone's proximity is part of the allure of Island Park. Since the late 1800's, tourists commonly passed through Island Park on their way to Yellowstone. Winter in Island Park brings snowmobiling, snowshoe and cross-country skiing. With an average snow fall of 229" and elevations ranging from 6,000-9,000 feet Island Park is the perfect base for your winter vacation.
Snowmobile on over 500 miles of groomed trails that interconnect with Montana making 900 miles of groomed snowmobile trails. Not a trail rider? Do some deep powder riding as this area is often #1 for snowmobile riding in the West. We have dozens of prime sledding areas.
With Cross-country ski and snowshoe trails on the Targhee National Forest or Harriman State Park of Idaho or take a short drive to West Yellowstone and ski the famous Rendezvous Ski Trail system or into Yellowstone National Park. As well Island Park is host to the Island Park Winter Fest in January where you can see snow sculpting at its best as well as other activities throughout that weekend.
