Old boarding house with hot pools.
We were a little leary of this hotel. It was built in the 1920's and hasn't seen a whole lot of upgrades or changes since then. I liked the decorations which fit right in with the comfortable old scheme. The rooms open right off the hallway. Most do not have ensuite bathrooms which instead are communally shared down the hallway. The rooms are on the small size and work well if all you want to do is sleep. We had a king bed room with a jetted tub. It was a little larger and had a tv which were not available in the smaller rooms.
Getting service or help was a little hit and miss. I'm not sure there was anyone in the hotel- guest or staff -when we arrived to check in. There are other buildings associated with the hotel and the staff could well have been there. But this is a very informal operation, don't expect a great deal of service.
The beds were comfortable enough and once we settled in the hotel began to grow on us.
Breakfast was included in the rate and was served in the dungeon like basement. It was a full breakfast with eggs, hashbrowns, fresh fruit along with the usual breads, cereals and coffee and juice.
Unique Quality: What I really enjoyed about this hotel, and the reason I would use it again, were the hot pools. These are private pools though the public can pay to use them. There were several different temperature pools. The very hot, the merely hot, tepid, and the cold plunge pool. Also the two riverside very warm pools. I loved being able to go out and use them first thing in the morning when it was quiet. They were in a nice garden setting tucked away from the rest of the city.
