Simplot Games
Simplot Games is the Premier indoor Track and Field Event for high school students. The Games are held the Third weekend of February. Over 2,000 high school students attend from mostly the western United States and Canada. It is a truly international event as exchange students often compete under the flag of their home country. The event is free to the public.
The Games are not only attended by some of the best track talent in the country, but on Saturday the stadium will host 10-15 US Olympic Track Stars many who hold gold medals and are avid fans urging the kids on. Dick Fosbury is the Honorary Chairman. Others like Kevin Young, Andre Phillips, Stacy Dragilla and Rulon Gardner are there often. Most years a top class para-olympian will compete against an olympian as the crowd stands and screams their support.
Each year many meet and national records are beat. It is faced paced, well organized and awsome to watch. The boys 55 meter race can have more than 25 heats which are run at three minute intervals. Air traffic controllers would be envious.
The home town atmosphere, the energy of the atheletes, the specatacle of records just can't be beat. Simpot Games are held in the Holt Mini Dome which was the first indoor college football arena. The Games are held in February which can be fairly cold. Warm clothing, stadium cushions are helpful.
