This is one of the premium Fishing/Hunting spot all around Midwest. There are greater then 5 lakes positioned around the city of Carbondale. Most of the lakes are aboundant with Bass/Crappie/Blue Gill. I personally like to fishing in the Devil's Kitchen Lake for bass during the night. Nothing beats fishing with a cold drink on a full moon night. For Crappie fishing, I would suggest Cedar Lake. There were a bunch of standing dead trees in the middle of the lake, which contructs excellent shelters for Crappie. Catch the fishing is thus as easy as snap a finger.
Hunting season typically starts at around thinksgiving week. Though myself never hunt, I've seen many large deers during my fishing trips. Hunters often come down from Chicago in groups. Judge by their equipments and hunting trophys, it looked like they've gone through some major feast.
