New Adventures in the Midwest

by HasTowelWillTravel

I have created this page as an introduction to those who have come here from far away places. There is not as much tourism in this area, being in the middle of corn and soy fields. But people do arrive here, mostly related to schooling and the University. And so, to those who have appeared to this twin city area, here are my tips and suggestions in things to do, places to go, restaurants to eat at.

There are a lot of things which are good about being here. Traffic is virtually non-existent; in fact, it is a great city for biking. I use my bike to commute about 8-9 months out of the year, only when it is truly icy or snowy can you opt for other methods of transportation. The bus system is excellent as well.

The town is a fabulous place to raise a family, with small town charm but also enough going on to placate you and keep you occupied, if you put your mind to it. So delve into these pages, and I hope it brings to light some of the aspects of this midwestern city.

There is actually quite a bit to do in the area, once you get used to the midwestern life. One of the best activities, I think, is the biking opportunities of the countryside. The land is flat, and you can travel for mile after mile through rows of corn and soybean, past tiny towns. There are very little steep hills, which is a plus and a minus at the same time, but it allows you to really get some distance in. During the summertime, when the clouds are puffy and high and the sun is shining, it is a fabulous way to spend the day.

There is also some decent hiking and kayaking in the area, in the form of Kickapoo State Park, Allerton Park, Weldon Springs State Park, and more.

I've begin to live in this small university town in July 2000. Actually it is a twin city "Urbana -Champaign".. And nowadays i enjoy the spring colors all over the city; lilac, pink, green, green green ...

here is a panoramic view of the university campus..

i'll be back soon with more info and pictures...
