The hotel is on the Michigan ave. along with department stores, shops, restaurants, and museum. The room is clean and comfortable (typical Hilton room) with Internet access. The place can get very busy with people attending the events, and the room charge can be very expensive during that time. Always check several reservation websites as well as Hilton website to compare the pricing before you book.
They hold many conferences and events, and the facilitiy is conveniently set up with business center where you can use copy, fax, internet, package pick up and drop off, etc. The Irish Pub on the ground floor is always clouded. Check out the nightly live music. (See my night life tips.) For families, especially those with pets, this could be a good solution for visiting downtown Chicago. It's sort of shabby, but then again, you won't feel bad if your kids whoop it up. I stayed there for a weekend with my husband and 3 boys. They were little kids at the time, and had a blast in the huge family suite they gave us, which was more like an old-fashioned apartment than a hotel room. My boys loved hiding in all the big empty closets...We stayed there in the winter and found it a little overheated for our taste. The elevators were also sort of slow. It's not the Ritz, but it certainly served the purpose.
The location is good. There's a beach one block away (which we didn't try out because we were there in the winter). The lakefront, Water Tower, John Hancock building, Michigan Ave. and other Chicago musts are right around the corner. The street is lined with trees, home to a huge squirrel population. We didn't have any pets with us, but apparently the hotel caters to the sort that bring their animals along on their travels. Short-term stays of 30 days or more are also possible. Some of the rooms have kitchen facilities. Leave a Comment Theme: HotelPrice: US$80-120 » Currency ConverterComparison: less expensive than averageAddress: 18 E Elm St, Chicago, IL 60611

 | | | | Homewood Suites Chicago Downtown: "The Best Place to Stay in Chicago!' Compare Rates NEW! | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
The lobby is several floors up from street level. When the elevator opens you are enveloped in rich warm wood tones and leather couches around a roaring fireplace. There are floor to ceiling windows framing a view of the city from every direction and a friendly receptionist to check you in. The semi-suite rooms are less expensive than others in Chicago with this location, and they offer free wireless. The sleeping area is separated from the living room and simple kitchen area. The decor of the rooms is simple, and nice, (in one of our rooms you could see a faint stain on the carpet about the size of a cubic foot, but it did not feel cheap). The best part of the stay though was that Monday through Thursday Nights they serve a free dinner buffet that is just wonderful! The Thursday Night we were there they served an Italian Buffet with Spaghetti, Garlic Bread and various sauces. There was a small salad bar with fresh produce, and a wonderful desert bar with selections of brownies, chocolate cake, and apple pie. Employees went table to table filling your wine glass with free spirits, and there was a beverage machine which the kids could pick and refill their beverages as they pleased. I would definitely take advantage of this wonderful money saving feature of Homewood Suites. A family of four would have easily been charged $100.00 for this free all-u-can eat buffet with wine and beer. I would not stay anywhere else in Chicago!
This is a wonderful, economical place to stay in Chicago. It is located in the middle of everything, and not too far from anything. Across the street is Nordstrom's, (a great department store). You can jump on a free trolley that boards a block away and be taken to many of the wonderful activities Chicago has to offer. The health club has a nice sized indoor pool which was empty the entire time we were there. The area is surrounded by floor to ceiling windows that offer magnificent views. Adjacent to the pool is the small fitness area with up to date equipment.
