 | Chicago Reviews | Tips 61 - 70 of 411 | | Parking fees can add quite a bit to your hotel stay in Chicago, usually in excess of $30 per day. The two hotels that offer free parking that are most convenient to the sights are the Best Western River North (Ohio and LaSalle) and the Howard Johnson at 720 N. LaSalle. Both are located in the River North area, convenient to public transportation, many restaurants and shopping on Michigan Avenue. Leave a Comment Theme: Hotel |
 | | | | Cass Hotel: Best Budget Hotel Downtown!
Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
I'll be honest. I was a bit skeptical about staying at the Hotel Cass after I read a traveler review on another website. This traveler complained that this hotel must "charge by the hour," if you know what I mean. I did share an elevator ride with, what I assume was, a prostitute. That was within the first 10 minutes of my arrival. I can't tell enough people about that. The Cass Hotel has small rooms and it is definitely older-looking. However, I will NEVER STAY ANYWHERE ELSE AGAIN! Cass hotel is a great place! Location, location, location!
Location, Location, Location 1. Catching a cab is almost too easy right outside the door. -also, ESPN zone is down the street and that attracts plenty of cabs. 2. You can walk to subway stations very easily 3. You can walk to Mag. Mile (5-10min) 4. You can walk to Navy Pier (25min) 5. You can go around the corner of the block and sit on steps of an office building for a quiet smoke. 6. McDonalds, Rainforest Cafe, Hard Rock, and several late-night clubs are two blocks away on very well lit street! I am DONE paying $120 for a cramped room that isn't walking distance from anywhere! Stay at the Hotel Cass. Leave a Comment Theme: HotelPrice: US$40-80 » Currency ConverterComparison: least expensiveAddress: 640 N Wabash Ave, Chicago, IL 60611Directions: Mag. I haven't stayed at any of these hotels but I think they all look like nice alternatives to the larger hotels, hotels with a little history and rooms with some character. Hotel Burnham, 1 West Washington Street, is in a beautiful National Historic Landmark building (Reliance Building) that was restored and opened in 1999 as a hotel. There is a good restaurant in the hotel, Atwood Cafe which is named after Charles Atwood, the principal architect of the building. It is located in the loop and is close to the flagship Marshall Field's (Macy's) on State Street and to Daley Plaza. Hotel Allegro, 171 West Randolph Street, used to be the Bismarck Hotel, it was renovated and reopened as the Hotel Allegro in 1998 after a $31 million renovation to the art deco hotel . It's right next door to the Palace Theatre, in the loop theatre district. Hotel Monaco, 225 N. Wabash, was opened in 1998 and is decorated in French deco style from the 1920s and 1930s. One of their special touches is providing you with a goldfish for your stay upon request. It's located at Wabash and Wacker, just a few blocks away from the start of Michigan Avenue shopping known as the Magnificent Mile. Leave a Comment Theme: Hotel |

This is a hostel so expect the facilities to be rather spartan. However, it's in a great location near Lincoln Park and has ample bars, restaurants and a shopping district just a couple blocks away. It is also within walking distance of a Metro station that will wisk you to the heart of Chicago quickly and efficiently.
- Near bars and restaurants. - Near public transportation to Chicago Loop, magnificent mile and Museum Campus. - Nice staff, Laundry available. - 24 hour check-in. No curfew. - $20/night dorm, $50/night private room. Leave a Comment Theme: HostelComparison: least expensiveAddress: 616 W. | | | | Renaissance Chicago Hotel: A comfortable stay, right in the Loop
Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
Yes, the Renaissance is a chain hotel, but I took to it. Walk through their huge lobby with the big ceiling, all done up during the holidays. The rooms are pretty good sized, fine for beng on holiday, and you will sleep well there. And the hotel's prime dowtown location, on Wacker Drive and State Street on the Chicago River, puts you right in the heart of the action. They've also got two restaurants, both on the second floor. One warning: the gift shop closes very early, and I couldn't find any vending machines. Keep that in mind if you need a late night snack or a drink: you may want to get it early.
The view from my room, overlooking the Chicago River, was indeed great. I took a few pictures and posted them with this tip. I had a nice experience with their lost and found department. I left my dirty clothes there when I checked out. One phone call, and my laundry bag was located, boxed up and on it's way to my home, free of charge. Basic service, I know, but I've had problems with other hotels in the past. Thanks guys. And next time, I'll remember: don't leave my dirty laundry lying around!!! Leave a Comment |
