Water Tower Place
by RACCOON1
The picture is Water Tower Place a 70 storey office/condo building in Chicago. The lower floors are a retail complex and a bit of a tourist trap. There is a restaurant here , "Mity Nice Grill" that is also a bit of a tourist trap. It is a family oriented restaurant and prices are reasonable for downtown Chicago . I ordered a chicken for dinner . I thought I would be getting two slices of chicken breast plus vegetables, etc.
They brought a whole chicken . It was a small chicken , but still, eating a whole chicken was a challenge. I couldn't pass off any food to the rest of the family as they were having trouble eating everything that they were served .

Drive Lake Shore Drive at night from around Fullerton south to past Soldier Field. This drive takes you along the lake and gives a spectacular view of the skyline. It even looks at one point like you might drive right into the Drake Hotel. We always take first time visitors on this drive.

Not so much a tip, more sharing what the view from my temporary apartment looks like. The picture shows John Hancock on the right, at night after a snow storm, trying to pierce the clouds surrounding it with its lights. Bright lights, big city....

The skyline is very nice and you have the chance to go on top of them. Atleast on top of the Sears Tower for 10$.
Best thing is to buy a small map and take few days to go through all the attractions there are.
P.S Do not mention in any way Al Capone!! You´ll get your butt kicked
When NOT to go to Chicago
by Dabs
For starters there's the entire month of February-it's really, really cold, all of the fluffy white snow has turned gray, there's salt covering everything, Chicagoans are becoming very cranky being cooped up indoors, do I really need to say anything more? But beyond that you might also avoid these unless you are a participant:
Chicago Marathon weekend-hotels are expensive, restaurants will be packed, streets will be closed, weekend of October 12, 2008
Major conventions-here are a couple of good websites to check out, don't worry about the 500 person ones or the ones at the Donald Stephens center in Rosemont, but if there are 20,000 people converging on Chicago, you might consider another weekend because hotel prices will skyrocket and dinner/theater reservations much harder to get
