Hi friends,we have a hotel booking at Redroofinn,chicago-northbrook/deerfield.What is the nearest EL or Metra station/bus stop ,from redroof inn to get in to downtown, chicago.Thank you in advance.
If you look at a map, looks like the Lake-Cook Road METRA station is just up the road from there. 10-minute walk maybe.
I'll have to remember this, actually, because I'm always looking for a cheap hotel in Chicago with good transit access. Doesn't get much better than that.
And here's a link to the Metra site for those locations.

I took this picture of Buckingham Fountain in Grant Park during Taste of Chicago 2003 just after eating some teriyaki chicken from a korean food booth and some octopus from a sushi booth. I love Chicago! I wasn't there long as I was just between trains on my way back home.
There's so much to see but if you like the tourist stuff, walk along N. Lakeshore Dr. (Grant Park) and to the Museum Park. There's the Field museum (dinosaur), aquarium, and planetarium but there's also lots of kids there so be aware.
Deffinitely go to Giodano's Pizza, and you should check out N. Halsted St. for nightlife activities. Although I'm more of Sports guy than arts, I was really impressed with the Art Institute of Chicago located on Michigan Ave. Living here in Boston area, I thought the museum here was good but if you like exhibits, check it out.
Also, people are so friendly and I didn't expect that from a big city.
ride the Loop!. Chicago has an above ground train system which loops around the city and it is a great way to experience this dynamic city. Then get off the train and walk down the Magnificent Mile. Blocks and blocks of shops ! Sitting in a blues bar in downtown Chicago. This is the place if you love blues music. Chicago is to blues while New Orleans is to jazz. Great musicians play in smoky filled bars in chicago.
The Field Museum offers a lot of educational insight into our everyday lives. It allows us to examine the things around us: animals, plants, history, culture, etc. The museum has something for everyone. If you want to know something about Africa, there's an exhibit for that. If you like fossils, there's an exhibit for that. This is one great museum with all kinds of knowledge packed in one place!
