Great Stay in the Loop

My wife and I stayed at the Club Quarters-Central Loop in May 2009. We found it a clean, quiet hotel that had undergone a recent update. Free bottled water is provided on each floor, which is a treat for going on the long hikes you'll be making while getting around Chicago. Yes, the rooms are small, but who's hanging out in their room in Chicago?! The price was right ($79/night), the location was near the Sears Tower, Chicago Library, etc., and there was easy access to public transit to visit other locations. There are computers available in the lower level and there is wifi. I would definitely recommend the Club Quarters for a stay in Chicago.

Unique Quality: Newly remodeled, courteous service, various business services, free bottled water.

Reasonable downtown hotel

I had read a few negative reviews on the club quarters of this hotel so was a little bit weary, but truth be told on the contrary I found it to be a really good hotel for numerous reasons.

My friend & I shared a twin room with a shower big enough to fit at least 4. The decor was a bit old fashioned but it was equipped with fridge, microwave and aircon as well as a coffee maker & complimentary toiletries. There is free filtered iced water machines next to every lift & wireless available in each room.

Downstairs is a lounge with a few computer terminals and even a small gym. They have a restaurant attached the Elephant & Castle serving good British cuisine at reasonable prices.

It is a convenient hotel to stay at if you are travelling on business as its in the heart of the business district also it is well set up with transport links. The downside of being on holiday and staying in the downtown area is at night and weekends everything shuts down. The streets are quiet besides a few harmless homeless people and you will need to take public transport North over the river. The concierge was extremely helpful and will look up any bus numbers you may require.

For this hotel we booked through www.Orbitz.com and the price was definetly right also they give a night free for every x no of nights.

Avoid Hotel At All Costs

Have stayed on two occasions for business. The rooms are small, cramped and musty. The beds are incredibly uncomfortable and the facilities are very dated. Water pressure in the shower is best described as spitting. Views are fantastic if you like looking at concrete. Service is what I would expect at a McDonalds in Compton. Walls are paper thin. Carpet is stained.

Save your money and go to the local mission for the night if this is your only option.

Unique Quality: The smell of mildew and the sound of traffic.

More about Club Quarters Central Loop

Very satisfied with Club Quarters (on Adams)

by A TripAdvisor Member

Just spent Tuesday thru Sat. nights at Club Quarters for a Conference at the Chicago Hilton. Easy walking distance (about ten blocks) and I always felt safe. Room was pleasant, loved the lobby "library." Had a computer room on my floor (3rd) which was very handy. Loved the big desk space in my room because I had paper work to do every night. Also loved that the tv was NOT the focal point of the room. Probably not the place if you need a lot of room for makeup etc.; minimal shelf space in the bathroom. But so nice to have a shower with a HIGH shower head, since I'm tall. Was unpleasantly surprised that the drug stores in the area aren't open on the weekends -- I'd been buying bananas and yogurt every night to have for breakfast! Staff was pleasant and helpful. Had good fish & chips one night in the pub. A good experience.

Great Value - Wacker at Michigan location

by A TripAdvisor Member

My husband and I stayed here in December 2002. We stayed at the Wacker/Michigan location (keep in mind that Club Quarters has 2 locations). We LOVED it for the price. It was so much nicer than we anticipated. We paid about $70 for the room. Shopping, restaurants all just a minutes walk away. We got a free continental breakfast too. Room was very small, but who needs more room?

Great place for the money!!

Club Quarters is a great place to stay if you don't want to blow your budget on a hotel. The staff was pretty friendly and recommended a restaurant w/ great jazz a few blocks away. The room was small, but we were not in the room that much. The room came w/ a coffee maker, fridg, microwave, silverware, plates, etc and a bar sink. I went through priceline and paid about $68 a night minus taxes and fees on 4th of July weekend. It was 4 blocks from the Taste of Chicago, so it worked out great.
With the great public transportation system in Chicago, you can get anywhere in the city including the ball parks, shopping, Navy Pier, Museums, restaurants, or whatever w/ a short walk to public transportation or cab. They also have plenty of breakfast places within a block to choose from and drug stores so if you need anything, it's around.
I would stay there again, because I honestly wouldn't pay $200 to stay around N. Michigan when you are can more ammenities w/out the name brand for a lot less.

Good Value for Vacation

Centrally located. Close to "EL" and other trains (2 blocks). Very close to free shuttle service (1 block).

We liked the Noon check out time, and the complimentary bag storage (our flight was late afternoon). Found the room neat, well furnished, excellent matress. Hotel staff were helpful.

Free wireless internet access was a great bonus!!!!

Highly recommended for traveller who wants an inexpensive hotel in the centre of Chicago.

All visitors to Chicago should do at least one tour with the Chicago Architecture Foundation
Their walking and river tours were the highlight of our visit!!

Great location, much to recommend

by A TripAdvisor Member

Rooms are small but clean. Room size is fine for two people but probably not adequate for a couple with small kids in the room. Adams Street location is great with Berghoff Restauarant, Sears Tower, Chicago River Shuttle, Union Station and the art museum all within easy walking distance. The bar and restaurant adjacent to the hotel served decent food and good drinks at fair prices. Hotel staff was courteous and accomodating. No small feat on a weekend when they were full and very busy.
As a tourist I actually preferred this location to where I normally stay which is near Water Tower Place. Less people, but still convenient to Michigan Ave shopping and Navy Pier via water shuttle or taxi.

Great place

We went to Chicago for a weekend and endet up staying at the Club Quaters on Wacker and Michigan. The staff was great and very helpful. The room was small but clean and had an almost european feel to it. I would stay at this hotel any day. Another tip, the italien restaurant in the hotel is exellent!!!!! A must try!!!!

The reviewers are right with one addition

by TripAdvisor Member Mike Sheridan

Spent a September weekend night here and agree with that this does feel very European (small, but usable). The thin walls and door, though, might lead you to a 3am wake-up as the bar folks return home.

We paid $119 through priceline. If you can get the room below $80 the location probably makes up for any noise.

Driving in Chicago

by FANeug

Instead of taking I90 all the way to the Central Loop hotel off East Congress Pkwy I was considering Exiting at Indianapolis Blvd and following US40 along Lake Michigan. Is this a good, a bad or a really bad idea?

Re: Driving in Chicago

by FANeug

Oops, I meant US41.

Re: Driving in Chicago

by dnwitte

41 gives wonderful views of the city and lake, and I found all driving in Chicago to be quite easygoing (from a Massachusetts point of view).

Re: Driving in Chicago

by Dabs

I drive US41 all the time but it goes through a bit of a rough neighborhood so I'd only do it if you have a good map with you in case you get off the road (or GPS) AND you don't stop between the Museum of Science and Industry (except for the Cultural Center) and Indianapolis Blvd.

Congress Parkway is under construction BTW so don't plan on taking that anywhere
