I have stayed at the Esquire twice, for 2 weeks in September 2008 and for 3 weeks in June 2010. The first time I stayed in an upstairs room. It was, to be fair, okay-ish. The furniture is old, so are the bathrooms. I came to Chicago from Europe to see a friend and this motel was cheap and close to his home. To be honest, it was a place to sleep so I didn't care too much. There are a lot of bars and restaurants in the neighbourhood and 2 busstops, one almost across the street.
The second time I stayed in a downstairs room. The airco broke after a few days and it was very hot at the time. I was promised it would be fixed soon but although one time a repairguy came, it stayed broken. I was promised a discount and I got an electric fan that hardly was enough to keep me comfortable. So when I was in the room I usually had the door open which lead to the insult of people asking if I was a 'working girl'! In this room the shower curtain was broken too. The discount I finally got was $20 for the whole 3 weeks I stayed there! Oh and both times the sheets didn't get changed even once!
As I said it was a place to sleep but this time it really got to me. Next month I will be going back to Chicago but absolutely NOT to the Esquire! I wouldn't reccommend this motel to anyone, especially not to ladies travelling alone! Unless they really are 'working girls' :p
The only good thing about this place is the 24hr MacDonalds next door where I used to cool down during my last visit...
Unique Quality: Facilities? Pool? Great views? Non of this!
