Lovely, Sweet Lil' Spot

After an aggravating check in at the Inn at Lincoln Park(see tips), I phoned The Majestic at the last minute, jumped a cab, and had a luxury room for about $40 more, per night than the aforementioned flophouse.

The Hotel Majestic is a lovely, converted apartment house on a charming side street of the Lakeview District. Business travellers are perhaps the target, but the elegant appointments would make anyone feel they are on holiday.

Whirlpool tubs, complimentary bath salts, body products, shoe gloves, black out curtains, and a helpful, courteous staff. And, considering the rates, I can't imagine you can beat it in the ultra expensive Chicago hotel market.

Unique Quality: Brompton Ave. does not travel all the way through to the major thoroughfares of the neighborhood, so the hotel can be difficult to find(or find your way back to....I had to cab it just to find my way home).

Also, it is a mere block from the lake and a great spot for those who run or bicycle on the shore. From this location, it is far more sensible to hop a bus for Downtown, rather than hike inland to the clattery El.

Oh, almost forgot: I got the last room, and it was the smallest in the hotel. Though I liked my stay, it was laughably tiny. So, don't let them give you Room 108!!

Hotel Majestic

I stayed at the Hotel Majestic for 3 nights in June, 2004.

Unique Quality: This hotel is on a quiet little Lincoln Park street just off Lakeshore Drive. It's elegant, but not so much you're afraid to touch anything!

I stayed in a suite with one other person. There was a mini-fridge and a microwave, and the couch opened up into a pretty comfortable bed. My only complaint would be no door between the 2 rooms of the suite.

A "continental" breakfast was served in a room off the lobby. This room was not a dining room, but more like a lounge with comfortable couches and cushy chairs.

Outside the hotel's front door are 2 benches with large ashtrays for smokers.

Parking is an issue. There is limited street parking, and the nearest garage (which was VERY busy and not well staffed) is around the corner and a few blocks away. At least the walk to the hotel is through a safe neighborhood.
