I booked this former Comfort Inn based on price and location, wanting to stay in a neighborhood, vs. The Loop.
I arrived, checked in, and found a few steps had to be mounted to get to the elevator(tough with luggage and my lousy back), as well as a key activated security door.
The hotel was attractive enough, but the room was a bit ghetto. Add to that the stench of cigarettes and I began opening all the windows.
I'd requested a "non smoking" room and the kids at the front desk were unapologetic stating it was consider a "request" and could not always be honored. I sat on this for five minutes, decided I couldn't breathe, and went back to the kids and basically said "NO WAY".
It took a full half hour to get out of the online booking(a result of booking on cheaptickets) and I got to sit in the lobby with my luggage, watching party kids with 12packs of beer running in and out of the hotel.
Front desk was surly, room was ghetto and not what was booked, and the guests looked like they were rushing a fraternity. Nice location, though
Unique Quality: It certainly is unique to be treated this poorly. Oh, and why a security door steps from the front desk? That's unique, too. Got myself a cab and a posh room up the street for not much more $

My husband and I are planning a trip to Chicago for our anniversary next month and decided to stay in Lakeview to scope out the hood (for a hopefull future relocation). I found the following hotels listed through metromix.com and am hoping someone may know which hotel is the best deal. We're only able to stay for 2 nights and have about a $300 budget for a hotel.
