Water Tower Place...

by Jayne60

I know its pretty big, and lots of places to shop, but we are mainly going for just one store, and was wondering what you would consider the main, not to be missed, attractions at the Place? If we go early, is there somewhere to get a small bite of breakfast before a later planned big lunch? Thanks all!!

You will find lots of places to grab some breakfast inside and outside of Water Tower Place

It would really depend on your interest. They have an Oprah store in there, but also a Chicago Cubs store. I don't know if Auntie Ann's Pretzels serves any type of breakfast, but if they do that would be a quick breakfast pretzel if there is such a thing.

I do not find anything especially unique or interesting about Water Tower Place. It's a big mall, that is about it. I would have you go to State and Washington for the 'original' department store (now a Macys)...Marshall Fields...This is truly one of the orginal dept stores in the country. There is a beautiful domed cieling with cermaic design by Tiffany...Have lunch on the seventh floor (Walnut Room)...a great and unique Chicago experience.

I remember Marshall Fields from way back. The whole reason for the hour long bus ride to the loop was to go to the tea room and see the Christmas tree every year. We hope to do that again in November. Thank you for basic answers about WTP. It was pretty much what I figured, so we won't plan half a day there.

15 things to do while in Chicago

by midnight_mike

If you are visiting Chicago, you shoud:
1. Go to the top of the Sears Tower
2. Ride the Ferris wheel at Navy Pier
3. Ride a bike or roller blade along Lake Michigan
4. See a show at Second City and/or Steppenwolf Theatre
5. Visit the original McDonald’s museum
6. See the animals at Lincoln Park Zoo and/or Brookfield Zoo
7. Spend a day at the Field Museum and the Shedd Aquarium
8. Ride the roller coasters at Six Flags Great America
9. Attend a concert at Millennium Park or Grant Park
10. Walk along Michigan Avenue’s Magnificent Mile
11. Have a drink at the Green Mill Jazz Club, Al Capone’s old hangout
12. Shop ‘til you drop at Gurnee Mills
13. Drink the night away at Rush & Division
14. Eat and shop at Chinatown
15. Attend a taping of Jerry Springer and/or Oprah

Yes, there is plenty more to do in Chicago. These are things that most tourists would enjoy. I tried to make a list which appealed to as many people as possible. Of course, a fan of Ernest Hemingway could visit his house in Oak Park; an art lover could visit the Art Institute of Chicago; and any sociologist could visit any of the city's ethnic enclaves such as Little Village.

Stroll along the 'Mag Mile',...

Stroll along the 'Mag Mile', Chicagos most important road, visit some of the worlds highest buildings such as Sears or Hancock Tower, walk along the shoreline of Lake Michigan, take a ride on the EL or see the Chicago river turn green on St. Patrick's Day.

Gotta go to Wrigley Field to see the Chicago Cubs play. Even if you don't like baseball very much it's an awesome place to go. Just walking around Chicago, keep an eye out for dozens of different painted cows in random spots throughout downtown. It's kinda fun to see how many you can spot.

Take a boat ride

by kristii

Michigan Lake is beautiful and the best way to enjoy the city view is also to have a boat ride on the lake. The prices vary, but you will definetley find the one that pleases you. Have fun and relax.

JAY PRITZKER PAVILION

by LoriPori

The Frank Geary designed JAY PRITZKER PAVILION is located in Millennium Park on Randolph Street between Michigan Avenue and Columbus Drive. Chicago's newest masterpiece of architecture and design, it is the most sophisticated outdoor concert venue of its kind in the United States. The music pavilion showcases billowing curves of stainless steel and includes a vast steel trellis, which forms an accoustical canopy extending south over the Great Lawn. It was an absolutely stunning presence.
