What's to do here?
by greetings
I'm planning a business trip to a manufacturing plant in dixon and want to know what is there to do there? I am from an urban area on the west coast and have some roots in Chicago/Danville/Hoopeston areas. I'd love to find out more about rural midwest culture. Any ideas?
BTW - this doesn't have to be limited to Dixon oly. I'd travel up to 100 miles to find interesteing things to see.
Trip date is not firm but will be approximately between Oct 18th to Nov 12th, 2004

the only thing I can think of about Dixon is that (I believe) it is Ronald Reagans home town.

Hello:
Hope this info isn't too late for your purposes.
Dixon is indeed Reagan's hometown. It is worth a quick visit to the childhood home/museum on Hennepin Ave. (Downtown and closer to the river is a big piece of the Berlin Wall, sited in a pocket park dedicated to the pursuit of Liberty - that's interesting, too.) If the weather is nice, a drive along the Illinois 2 follows the scenic Rock River valley for several miles - and leads north in the direction of Rockford. Being from Danville, however, you might prefer instead to take the tollroads through Chicago and head south, to the hometown of Dick and Jerry Van Dyke. That, and some nice riding stables outside of town are about all that Danville has to offer the visitor.

Are there any local meeting places where one can get to experience a little of the midwest hospitality or meet the locals?
