ON this tour, a "costumed guide" leads you on a ghost tour of cemeteries and Galena's sites. She tells you about Galena's most famous ghost tales.
Reservations are needed for this seasonal tour.
It is only available on:
Fridays and Saturdays in May through October

This walking tour gives you an oversight of Galena's past and present ghostly adventures. The tour guide says that ALL of the stories are "AUTHENTIC AND HAVE BEEN RESEARCHED". Thus, it is a mixture of history and mystery.
This, too, is a seasonal tour.
Friday-Saturday at 8 p.m. April-October
[Memorial Day Weekend is Friday, Saturday, & SUNDAY night at 8:00 pm]
November and December tours are conducted inside. Regardless of which ghost tour you decide to take, I'm sure you will enjoy it.

Stair climbing

Because Galena is built on a series of bluffs, the different elevations are only interconnected at certain points. Some of these points are for cars, and some are for pedestrians. Pedestrian trails are basically stairs! Galena has several pedestrian stairways you can climb for reason or pleasure. Once you climb, (and it really isn't that difficult, something like 170 steps on the flight I chose) you get a spectacular view of Galena and its environs. The only regret Ihad, was that it wasn't winter and all the trees and leaves got in the way!

Valentines Day in Galena

Galena is a town that found wealth in the lead mines, i.e., galena ore. It sprang to life and then quietly was bypassed by the modern age. Nearly 90% of the old town is historic. This is also the Bed & Breakfast Capital (not their claim), but they have a lot of the midwest.

The movie 'Field of Dreams' was filmed here and across the river in Iowa (about 45 minutes). The High School Steps is where the scene with the Doctor in Minnesota declined to go with Kevin Costner.
