Chestnut Mountain Resort

Chestnut Mountain Resort is an awesome summer getaway. Normally a ski resort, in the summer time it is virtually empty. We travelled on a Wednesday - Friday and missed the crowds. Chestnut Mountain is only 8 miles down a very curvy road from Galena in the town of Hanover, IL. It features a great Alpine Slide (watch out for groundhogs sitting on the track), an indoor swimming pool and hot tub, a miniature golf course, children's playground, a gameroom, and amazing views of the Mississippi river. Our room was only $89.00 for two adults and two kids under 6. Breakfast was free with the room and the restaurant is very good. This resort is only a short distance away from Mississippi Palasades state park, Galena, and Dubuque, IA.
