More about Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa

Prior to looking for a weekend getaway, I turned to the helpful reviews posted on TripAdvisors.com. After reading the good and bad about Eagle Ridge Resort and Spa, I was pleasantly surprised and felt morally reponsible to let other guests know that the destination is not only understated, -- but well worth a 2.5 hour drive from Chicago.
Professionally-staffed, the villas offer everything one needs for week or weekend away from home. Although I'm not a lover of American contemporary furnishings, the accommodations were impeccable. There are so many things to do at Eagle Ridge, an outdoor enthusiast can find a little piece of paradise: 4 mega golf courses, canoe and bike rentals, pools or just a beatiful place to grill and enjoy nature. As for the food, Spike's Bar and Grill features an appetizing menu and the Woodbine Restaurant's Sunday brunch dishes up tasty foods with friendly service.
What a total dump...........

Was there for a weekend get away in July. We paid $179.00 a night for a total [--] of a room. Drapes were dirty, stained and frayed. The carpet actually crunched as you walked on it.It was so dirty that my wife and I were scared to walk on it barefoot. Bathroom was only presented as clean. The mattress on the king sized bed sagged in the middle so as the night went by we were both tangled with each other in the middle several times. When I voiced my concerns to the staff I was rebuffed by a very snobby and rude tart that reminded me of Yoda. I WILL NEVER STAY AT THIS DUMP AGAIN. I'd rather stay at the Triangle Motel. At least at $40.00 a night you know you're staying at a dump.
Dinner was totally lousey also. If thats their idea of food, you're better off going down the road to Culvers.I think the chef was trained by Waste Management.
We had a great stay

We spent a Sunday night at Eagle Ridge in November 06 and had a great time--the Inn was not busy so we pretty much had the place to ourselves. Room was great--nice, clean furnishings and bed. Very quiet. Dinner was excellent. Room service breakfast was on time and served warm. Front desk staff was great. We will stay here again.
romantic getaway for two

I booked a Villa for one night for a mini getaway the place was perfect. We grilled out one the deck .Never herd another guest .Check in was fast. There was a fireplace , movies, anything you could need and if it was not there, it is a short drive into town to get it. For $25 dollars more you can add a tub with Jetts. we are planning another trip this winter we will take the kids this time and go snowboarding.
Great Golf Package and accomodations
by TripAdvisor Member mocho
I surprised my husband with an overnight golf package at the resort. We hit two buckets of balls, played the General twice, had appetizers at the golf course grill, and had a buffet breakfast--all included in the package. The best part was being upgraded to a suite (Room 404) with a view of the lake. The furnishings were beautiful and it was a wonderful, relaxing overnight in a restful and peaceful setting.
Great family fun with toddlers

We stayed here for 4 nights with our two boys 4 and 5. We chose it because of the activities for kids and we were not disappointed. They have a kids camp called club eagle and babysitting friday and saturday night. We did one morning camp and one Saturday night. We were able to enjoy the lovely spa, the amazing General golf course and great meals at Spikes. The kids club was ok. There weren't a lot of kids but the staff seemed competent. The pool desk staff was horrible and the reception desk staff were cold and rude. Luke and Julie in recreation were very nice as were Chris and Andrea in the restaurant.. The pool was nothing special but it was big enough and clean. The kids had fun at movies in tubies on Friday night (watch a movie in the pool!) They loved horseback riding at the stables. We took a nature walk and bike rides. They rent nice bikes, tandems, and trailers. Be careful, its VERY hilly. Thats what makes it beautiful. We rented a pontoon boat and that was fun. The kids camps are between 30-50. Horseback riding on a lead for kids under 8 was 14. The bikes were free for up to 2 hours. The pontoon was 50 for one hour. They have free crafts twice a day for the kids and there is a playground that is nice but no shade. That weekend (June 17) was the Galena Hot Air Balloon Race right there at Eagle ridge. They had food and games for kids all for charity. The race itself was amazing to watch. It goes on all weekend and the night we went we saw about 15 balloons launch. So cool. The room was nice. It was large with a pretty balcony. Next time we will request a room in the back with a view of the lake. The lodge has a mission feel and it definitely looks wintery. I would definitely recommend staying inthe lodge for young kids because everything is close. We didn't do much in Galena itself. We had breakfast at Clarkes and that was ok. Benjamins was horrible. Shopping at Poopsie's is a must. A few doors down theres a cool soda shop. Happy Joes on Rt 20 was a mini Chuck E Cheese with equal food quality. We had great breakfasts at the hotel. Kids 3 and under free:) Paisanos pizza was not a good choice, but the ice cream was yummy. We would definitely go again. I spoke to a very nice lady at reservations, but the rates I got at the resort were around 230 (a special!) but on expedia I got the same room for $164. The moral here-book online!
Great Fishing

My wife and I spent a world class week at this resort and we were amazed at the quality and service for the price we paid. My wife had several treatments at the spa and raved about the blue berry facial and body scrub. I rented a pontoon from the resort and spent the day bass fishing. I had an incredible day with 10 bass boated over 4 lbs. If you are a fan of catch and release this is the place for you! They get very little pressure on this lake and it consistently produces large bass and tiger musky. The villa we rented was modern with a scenic view of the South golf course. This is a welcome departure from a regular hotel room and made it feel like a personal country retreat home. I played one round of gold on the General and was very impressed with the quality of the course. They have three 18 hoel courses and one 9 hole course. For the price this may be one of the best kept secrets in Illinois!
Nice - but had higher expectations
by TripAdvisor Member Madtown91
Went for a weekend getaway. First problem was encountered when I had called previously to have arrangements for wine and flowers to be in the room upon our arrival for a surprise. The wine was not their...showed up 10 minutes after our arrival --- no surprise.....and we never received any flowers. So this was our initial dissapointment. While it was a warm weekend -- their was no relief in the guest rooms or in the main lodge area -- we had our air on high all weekend..and it never did cool off. It is nice that bikes are provided for guests to ride on the trails...however not many were in service -- and the ones we did take were not working properly---which didn't make it a lot of fun. The other weird thing is the entire main lodge area smelled like wild game??? very weird. Customer service was okay - expected more for the price paid.
Birthday weekend
by TripAdvisor Member alpacamom
My husband booked this as a weekend getaway for my birthday. It was excellent. The room was beautiful and very quiet, with a beautiful view of the lake. The resort has paddle boats that are complementary for 2 hrs for each day that you are there. The spa is wonderful. I had a massage on the first day, and a pedicure on the second day. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The resort is about a 45 minute drive from the casino in Iowa, and we drove there for a few hours to gamble. The bar in the resort had live music and a good choice of local and small brewery beers. There was a complementary wine tasting in the lobby, and the chef was there creating shrimp hors d'oeuvres. The food in the restaurant was good, but a little on the pricey side, and the breakfast buffet was very nice. We really enjoyed lunch at one of the club houses overlooking one of the golf courses. We didn't get a chance to golf, but the courses were beautiful and very scenic. The town of Galena is worth the trip, we toured Presidents Grant's home and shopped, parking is very hard to come by. We are planning to return and take our son for a golf weekend in the fall. There are also homes to rent on the resort grounds.
