Main Street Inn: Right in the Center of Historic Downtown Galena
For our 40th Anniversary, we stayed the second night of our celebration at the Main Street Inn in Galena, Illinois. It's located on main street in an 1850's building and takes up the entire second floor.
There are six elegantly decorated rooms, and each room has its own private bath. Room rates range between $85.00 to $130.00 per night. This Inn was recently restored with personal touches and country charm.
Nancy is the woman who runs this Inn, and she is warm and friendly and makes a wonderful continental breakfast each morning.
Each room has cable TV, air conditioning, and luxurious bedding. The entire Inn is non- smoking, which was a real plus!
Check-Inn is 2:00 pm, and check out is 11:00 am.
While at the Main Street Inn, we stayed in the a Vista Room. This room was a sunlit corner room with a picturesque view of downtown historic Main Street.
There was a wrought iron Queen-size bed and an intimate sitting area. An adjoining private bath had a pedestal sink and a shower/tub combination.
We were most pleased with our stay here...the location is outstanding, the breakfast was delicious, and Nancy was a wonderful hostess.

Captain Gear Guest Suites: My favorite B&B of all
I have stayed at many B&Bs, but this one is still my all-time favorite. It is an extremely well-presented establishment, classy and warm, with an absolutely knock-out gourmet 3-course breakfast. (Ours was as follows: Course 1 - A pineapple carved out and filled with fresh fruit salad, Course 2 - maple butter crepes, Course 3 - omlette tort, all accompanied by fresh juices, coffees, teas, and freshly baked bread. It is impeccably presented.) Wine and fresh chocolate chip cookies were on offer in the foyer, homemade chocolate covered strawberries greeted you in your bedroom, and each room was stocked with drinks and snacks. The owners - who were wonderful - maintain a huge collection of recent & classic DVDs for the guests to use. We stayed in the Gear Suite - admittedly pricey, but very thoughtfully & beautifully decorated. This is the kind of place that I would send friends & family to without hesitation - and I would never have to worry about them questioning my taste!
The property is a magnificent "Italianate mansion" built in 1855, which the owners have restored with true sophistication. Suzanne is a masterly chef, and her breakfast is by far the best I've ever had at a B&B establishment.

Snoop Sisters Inn: Lovely Bed & Breakfast
Every Easter, we stay at the Snoop Sisters Inn because it's the very best, affordable place to stay. The owners are warm and friendly. The husband is goofy and funny, and the wife is shy, sweet and an amazing cook. You can come and go as late as you want, and there's always baked goods in the kitchen throughout the day. It's also located in a convenient location, but it is next to the road, so you will hear passing traffic quite a bit. The inn is located in a historic home, but it's small and cozy, not opulent.
They allow and welcome children and one night stays which is rare for a bed & breakfast.
