Marcus Gurnee Cinema
by deecat
The Marcus Gurnee Cinema is a state-of-the-art theatre with plush, comfortable, stadium seating, digital sound, crystal clear, big, bright pictures, and high-quality (and expensive) refreshments.
Plus, the Marcus Gurnee Cinema is conveniently located at one of the premiere shopping destinations in northeastern Illinois, the Gurnee Mills Mall.
When Marcus Gurnee Cinema was first built, it had twelve screens; within a few years, eight more screens were added so that it now boasts twenty screens. In 2003 the front entry (outside) to the theatre was completely renovated as a beautifying technique. In 2005, they completely renovated the inside of the theater, and it is much more "classy" now.
The theatre is always busy with retired people in the afternoons, students in the after school hours, in the summer, and on weekends, and (since the Great Lakes Naval Base is so closeby) with Navy personnel at all times.
The negatives for the theatre are the long lines for the restrooms after a movie is over. Also,if you are in the Gurnee Mills Mall shopping and decide that you want to go to the theatre, you have to go outside and walk about half a block to get into the threatre (a real inconvenience).

web-site: www.marcustheatre.com Since Allan and I are retired, we try to go to the Marcus Gurnee Theatre on Wednesday and Friday afternoons before 5 p.m. because the cost is only $3.75 for people 60+. At night, seniors pay $5.50. The price of a ticket for the general public is $8.00.
We seldom purchase refreshments because of the cost. If we were to purchase a medium-sized popcorn and a small pop each, it would be over $10.00.
If it is a really popular movie that is just opening, you can order your tickets over the computer to avoid the long lines.
We really enjoy our weekly "dates" to the Marcus Gurnee Threatre here in Gurnee.

Lipizzans Perform For You!
by deecat
World reknown Tempel Lipizzans perform classical dressage in Wadsworth during the summer season.
They perform at Tempel Farms which is a beautifully rolling countryside suited for breeding, raising, and training of the unique Lipizzan horses.
When I drive down Wadsworth Road and pass the Tempel farms, I sometimes see the young horses (which have not turned white yet). It's an incredible farm on a huge amount of property and one of the only large parcels of farmland left in the area.
17000 Wadsworth Road
Wadsworth, IL 60083 (next door to Gurnee)
If you would like to see the Lipizzans perform, and if you are in the area in the summer, call (847) 623-7272 for the information you will need.
