We have been quite happy with the various Comfort Inns we have used on our trips, so were on the look-out for another one as we tried to make our way around the southern outskirts of Chicago. However, as darkness began to fall after another long day of driving the 1000 km (600 miles) from Fergus Falls, Minnesota, we decided it was time to call it a day. The highway signs along the US Interstate highway system are very helpful in that regard, detailing the names of the accommodations and restaurants available at each of the major intersections. As a result, when we spotted a Comfort Inn in Joliet as we neared the Illinois/Indiana state line, we decided that was going to be our home for the night.
Unique Quality: The Comfort Inn was located only a block or so away from the highway, yet was in a quiet area that never caused us any problems. It was not quite up to the standard of the one we had stayed in the night before while in Fergus Falls, Minnesota but still there was nothing to complain about. Our total cost (including breakfast) was US$85 (C$94).
As usual on most of our long-distance road trips, we did not feel like socializing in a restaurant, so I found us a quick and filling take-out meal at a nearby Taco Bell restaurant (just a few hundred feet away) so we could enjoy it in the peace of our room. Our only problem with this Comfort Inn began in the morning when we set out on Day 3 of our trip back to Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada (see Warnings & Danger tip).
Directions: If travelling on Interstate Highway 80, take Exit 130A to head north about one city block (and through one light) on Highway 7 - the Comfort Inn is clearly visible on the left
