Historic Hotel of America

If you have "money to spare", then this is the place to stay while visiting Lake Forest. This historic Inn symbolizes the understated wealth that exists in Lake Forest.

The Deer Path Inn was completed in 1929 and quickly became "a weekend haven for affluent Chicagoans and out-of-towners"...[quote from a 1929 newspaper article about the grand opening of the inn].

Still today, this inn is a place of elegance. It was styled after The Manor House [c.1453] that is located in Chiddingstone-Kent, England. This manor house is a half-timbered and stucco Tudor home In the reception area of The Deer Path Inn, there is a photograph of that very home.

If you decide to stay here, expect to pay $170-230 per night for rooms and $320-330 per night for a suite! There are a total of 55 quest rooms [30 are suites]. Each room is individually decorated and named after a National Trust of England historic site. Oh, by the way, for an additional fee, they will offer a selection of snacks that range from chocolates to champagne!

Unique Quality: There are Executive rooms [a standard room]with either a King, Queen, or Two Double beds. With these rooms there are garden and non-garden views. Some of these have a sitting area.

Then there are the Executive Junior rooms with a single room and one Double bed. It is what they call "a cozy nook similar to the bed and breakfast inns of Old England".

The Suites are comprised of two distinct rooms [separate parlor & bedroom] with choice of King, Queen, or two Double beds. They have both garden and non-garden views. Some have stone fireplaces.

Guest robes and slippers are provided as well as a USA Today paper available at the front desk.
Turn down service is offered nightly. Internet accessibility/data port, voice mail, and TV satellite channels are provided.

Parking is complimentary.

The hotel has two restaurants.

More about Deer Path Inn

North Shore's Award Winning Restaurant

by deecat about English Room

For a real Sunday treat, select the ultimate Sunday Champagne Brunch in the English Room at the Deer Path Inn Granted, because it is so expensive [$35.00 per adult and $17.50 for children 12 and under], we have only gone once or twice.

When you walk into the room, your senses are bombarded with wonderful frangrances such as maple syrup, crisply fried bacon, and other assorted herbs and spices.

The huge buffet table, covered in crisp damask linen, fine china, and elegant silver is a sight to behold. I was especially impressed with the lovely bouquets of fresh flowers. In the background beautiful classical music is playing.

In addition to the fabulous food, you can drink an unlimited amount of fine champagne! They have a great salad section with salads from around the world. My favorite is Tabouleh, but they also have Allan's favorite, Caesar.

They offer a great amount of seafood such as jumbo shrimp, oysters, crab, salmon, lake trout [smoked in-house] and white fish.

Of course I love the fresh fruit which is also so fresh and tastes in-season all the time.

The Carving station has juicy prime rib, baked turkey, roasted Bavarian ham, and Australian lamb loin.

There is a wide variety of cheeses on display, and since I love cheese, it's difficult not to try them all!

Their very talented pastry chef creates delicious fresh pastries such as Tiramisu, mousses, tarts, heavenly European cakes, and small pecan rolls. {YUM]

My very favorite dessert, however, is their juicy fresh strawberries bathed in European Chocolate.

So, splurge and enjoy this once in a lifetime experience.
