It's all about animals ...

Naperville has had its River Walk since its 150th birthday back in 1982. The original River Walk was a section which headed a little west of downtown Naperville. For the 175th birthday in 2007 the River Walk extended a little more east and south of downtown. But there is more to the river then just the walk. The DuPage River actually has an east and west branch which come close to each other at the intersection of Washington and Naper Blvd. These are some pictures near that intersection.
You know spring has arrived in Naperville when you see people eating outside at Jimmy's. Jimmy's has been around since, December 1997 in a building that was a former piano store. On any given weekday or weekend night in the Spring, Summer and Fall you are sure to see a gathering of all types of people inside and out at Jimmy's. A gathering of motorcycles is always parked on the side of Jimmy's.
Menu items range from burgers to salads, from wraps to pastas with always a smattering of something new. The menu has 8 different salads, 6 different wraps, 6 types of burgers including salmon burgers, 6 different types of pastas and a whole lot of drinks.
Jimmy's is open weekday nights until 1:00 a.m. and weekend nights until 2:00 a.m. So you can see that Naperville doesn't roll up the sidewalks and go to bed early.
North Central College is just up the hill from downtown Naperville, so I'm sure it is a great late night snack spot for the students as well.
A breakfast buffet is also now served on weekends. UPDATE: Since I wrote about it we decided to try the brunch this morning. Temperatures were in the low 70's so it was a perfect day to sit outside for breakfast. With one of the many hats from my hat collection (see some pictures of me without a hat and you'll understand the reason for the hat), and my sunglasses I was ready. The $9.95 buffet consisted of scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage links, breakfast potatoes, corn beef hash, biscuits and southern style gravy, waffles, pancakes, french toast casserole, french toast sticks, fresh fruit, fresh made mini doughnuts sprinkled with cinnamon and a few other pastries. They really push the drinks (and they do have plenty to choose from) even at 10:00 a.m. on a Sunday morning, especially the make you own bloody mary bar which for $5.00 extra looked good if you like those, we don't. Overall very nice way to relax and spend time on a Sunday morning. Only have been there recently for the breakfast buffet which has the review above.
The Naperville Riverwalk is located in downtown Naperville, it runs along the DuPage River from Jefferson Avenue to Hillside Road, the riverwalk has 4 miles of paths. Their website suggests the best place to start is at Main and Jackson, you can also park near Centennial Beach on Jackson Avenue. It was built by residents in 1981 to mark the city's 150th birthday.
Along the way you can rent paddleboats for 20 or 40 minute rides on the big quarry, west of Eagle Street between the DuPage River and Aurora Avenue. Weather permitting, it's open on all nonschool days from early spring (April or May) through September. You'll also come across fountains, covered bridges, a memorial to victims of the 9/11 attack and lots of people if you come on a nice day.
Bicycles, skateboards and roller blades are not allowed on the Riverwalk, these paths are for pedestrians only.
The river that runs trhough downtown Naperville is the West Branch of the DuPage River. You can either choose the quieter pleasures of the water-filled former stone quarry on the south side of the river by renting a paddleboat. Or you can kyak or canoe in the river itself. The current is pretty fast so I am sure downstream is easier than up!
