State Tournament for Boys and Girls Soccer
During the second Friday and Saturday in May the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) holds the semi-finals and finals of the girls state soccer tournament on the campus of North Central College located a block east of downtown Naperville. The boys hold their tournament during their season in the fall during the first Friday and Saturday in November. For one summer in 2006 while they were building a new soccer field in Bridgeview, Illinois the Chicago Fire professional soccer team called this field home.
Here is a link to a short video taken from outside the stadium during the girls semi-finals in May, 2009. Shin guards, shoes and the soccer (football)
A Good Fresh Sandwich
Whenever you pick a fast food place you hopefully should feel that after you've eaten you've enjoyed the food at least somewhat and that 30 minutes later you are not asking yourself "What Did I Eat". The Potbelly restaurants, which are a chain, have a good selection of sandwiches on rolls and are becoming my favorite for a quick bite to eat. For about $5 you get a good size sandwich on a nice fresh roll and your choice on condiments. They also now have a "Skinny Version" which is a little less meat and skinnier roll for about $1 less or $4.
If you go at various times they also may have a local entertainer usually on an acoustic guitar for your entertainment.
This is the Potbelly Sandwich Works in downtown Naperville located in a building that is about 80 years old. I usually opt for the Ham and Cheese, but they also have Turkey, Beef and even a PB and J (Peanut Butter and Jelly for you uninformed).
Quite a "catch"
The Naperville Catch 35 is a branch of the Chicago restaurant. It is basically a new American cuisine meets pan-asian surf and turf. I had a delicious Chilean seabass with a ginger/scallion sauce. My dining partners had the Yellow Fin Tuna and the maine lobster with wild mushroom ravioli, All were very tasty.
The service was harried and disinterested.
Naperville Public Library
The central branch of the library is right next to Riverwalk. The library now has 2 more branches that reach out into the southern parts of the city -- but this one is homebase.
The Naperville Public Library wins awards regularly for being the best in its class.
Naperville- The River Walk and Centenial Beach
Growing up in Aurora which is only 10 minutes away from the downtown of Naperville, this would usually be the place to come down to during the summer months, hang out with friends by the river, watch all the ladies go by and check out all the cool stuff in the stores. Every year the week leading up to the fourth, is the traditional Rib Fest, where restaurants from all over the region and the state come together and offer up the best slabs of ribs you can get. Each night there are old and new bands that play in the park and crowds can watch for free after paying the entrance fee into the festival.
The park is located just to the south west of Naperville Central high school and stretches over several acres, with probably over 50 different barbecue options to choose from. On the night of the fourth, everybody picks out a spot on the grass with friends or family and enjoy the great fireworks show that the city puts on from a local pond area.
