Perfect Location That Provides Free Parking
Because parking is at a premium in Oak Park, the Carleton of Oak Park provides 5 FREE parking lots.
Mickey, my co-traveler, made the arrangements for our hotel, and I am quite impressed with her choice. The Carleton of Oak Park is an historic hotel that is elegant but not "prissey".
Our room was located on the 4th [top] floor and consisted of two large beds, two tables, four lamps, a large wardrobe that also served as the Television case. It was well co-ordinated with a lovely color scheme of dark green, deep red, and cream. The closet was ample as was the bathroom. I liked having the sink outside the actual bathroom so that two could work at dressing/bathing at the same time. In addition, there was a small alcove that contained a refrigerator, microwave, cabinets, and a coffee maker.
The air-conditioning was perfect [never too cold or too warm] on these summer days. We had one slight problem with the down pillows because both Mickey and I are allergic to down feathers. Thank goodness we found alternative pillows in the closet.
This historic old hotel was a delightful experience.
Unique Quality: The Carleton of Oak Park is conveniently located just off Interstate 290, and is located right in the heart of Oak Park and all its historic buildings, restaurants, and shopping. It has been serving its patrons for 75 years.
It's near the Frank Lloyd Wright Historical District and the Ernest Hemingway Museum and Birthplace.
The hotel has 153 room, 13 suites, and 25 Motor Inn rooms [adjacent to the main hotel].
It was recently renovated, and the individually decorated rooms and suites are all appointed with microwaves, refrigerators, coffee makers, hair dryer, iron/ironing board, cable TV with HBO, and wireless internet. They offer complimentary weekday newspapers.
There are two restaurants: Philander's Restaurant with fine dining and live jazz entertainment nightly. AND Poor Phil's Restaurant with a sports bar atmosphere.
Check In: 3 p.m.
Check Out: 11 a.m.
