A Last View of Robertson Memorial Field House
by riorich55
Unfortunately, nobody will ever watch another game from the Field House as the last basketball game ever took place in 2008. The Field House was the home of the Bradley University Men's Team from 1949 through 1983 and through 2008 was the home of the Woman's Team. Many nights were spent here during my college years in the early 70's watching basketball games, seeing future president's (Ronald Reagan) speak and watching all types of entertainment from the Carpenter's to Sly and the Family Stone.
The new on campus athletic facility on this site was starting to take shape on my last visit to Peoria in March, 2009. From the pictures you might be able to get a feeling on how it was to watch a basketball game with 7,200 screaming fans rooting for the home town Braves.
When they took down the facility they offered the theatre seats and bleachers for sale. I now have a 4 foot section of the red bleachers in my home.
IHSA Boys State Basketball Tournament
by riorich55
Every March the original "March Madness" arrives in Peoria for 2 weekends of boys state final basketball. The event is held at the Peoria Civic Center. Along with the tournament games the adjoining civic center area is used for the March Madness Experience which hosts a number of basketball related events including for the last 5 years the state wheelchair basketball state finals.
Tanner's Apple Orchard
by cheryl-b
Quaint local apple orchard. Pick all the apples you like, then sample fresh apple butter, taffy apples, and apple cider in the store. There's a small petting zoo for the kids.
This is a lot of fun--I went here every fall when I lived in Peoria.
Upscale Italian
by cheryl-b about Ponte Vecchio
Peoria isn't known for it's fine dining, but Ponte Vecchio is the exception. It's an intimate Italian place with great service and quality food; it also has a decent wine list. Ponte Vecchio is among the best restaurants in Peoria, and is perfect for special occasions. We celebrated my college graduation here.
Look What's Under One Roof in Peoria

I was really impressed when I went to a Josh Groban Concert in Civic Center Arena in early March, 2005. Built in 1982, Peoria Civic Center has played host to the best artists and athletes and numerous exhibitions.
It was designed by world-renowned architects Phillip Johnson & John Burgee. This complex is really "a modern urban landmark" surrounded by a striking glass arcade which links spaces. It's made up of a 12,000-seat arena, where we saw the concert, and a 2,000-seat theater,. There are also exhibition halls and meeting rooms for any need (they can cater as many as 3,000 for dinner!)
The Peoria Civic Center is home to:
Peoria Symphony Orchestra
Opera Illinois
Peoria Area Civic Chorale
Peoria Ballet
Illinois Ballet
Broadway Theater Series
YouTheater Series
This place is tops for sports.. The center hosts the Illinois High School Association Boys State Basketball Tournament. They serve as home for Rivermen Professional Hockey, Peoria Mutineers Indoor Football, and Bradley University men's basketball.
The acoustics were excellent for the music concert. There were about 9,000 people in attendance, and all could hear, even those sitting in "nosebleed alley"!
I read that the Peoria Civic Center is preparing for a major renovation soon; it's in the works!
