Take a walk by the river

Taking a walk along Fox Valley River is a great way to explore the area and the city! There are paths you can follow and they all reward you with a really nice view of the area. Give it a try on a nice sunny day and you will not be sorry!
My latest walk was on a chili day in April, so it was short. I intended to start downtown and go down the river, through the forest. It was chili and sunny when I started the walk, but pretty fast the weather changed, the wind started to blow hard and clouds were rolling in. It soon started to snow, so I decided to end my walk and go back home.
The St. Charles Scarecrow Festival

Began as a 'friendly competition' to afford recognition to community and civic groups, it has turned into a huge autumn tourism event, promoted throughout the Northern Illinois area. I took the picture (seen here at left) of the winning entry at the very first fest in 1985. No longer is there an absence of crowds (as it was then).

PACE Bus (which services the suburbs surrounding Chicago), offers an innovative way to take very long bike trips without having to pedal over the entire distance. Their buses have been equipped with fold-down racks, which mount up to two bikes to the front! The first time I used it, looking out through the windshield of the bus, and seeing my poor ol' Schwinn suspended in mid-air at highway speeds, was a fascinating experience in itself. Read the instructions for attaching and dismounting your bike carefully (printed on the racks) - you are responsible for any subsequent loss or damage, etc.
Fox River Fishing

Fishing is one great way to spend few hours by the Fox River. There is a variety of fish that you can catch, but the most popular ones are smallmouth bass, catfish, musky and walleye. you need to get a fishing license and you need to bring your own fishing pole and chair
Balaji Temple

This is another stunning Hindu Indian temple that is located in Aurora, IL. It is worth a visit especially during one of the special celebrations. You will learn a lot about the traditions and the people.
