THE OTHER WINERY -- Most people know the Oliver Winery north of town. IN TOWN you can visit the tasting room of Butler Winery. Jim Butler even has written a book about wine in Indiana.

For a treat, go to the vineyard. But stop at the tasting room, College Ave at 15th St, for directions. 339 - 7233

Hoosier National Forest - Highway 446 to entrance on east side of road. Approximately 15 miles southeast of Bloomington.

Lake Monroe - Approximately 10 miles southeast of Bloomington. Surrounded by Hoosier National Forest.

The pizza is pretty good and this reminds you of a genuine college hang-out. Pizza, OF COURSE

Surprizingly Wonderful Town

"Indiana University is here"

The university is a strong and important aspect of Bloomington. It is a very excellent school, drawing students and staff from around the globe. The art museum is terrific.

It is such a wonderful place to visit. And I can see why many students don't move after they are done with their studies. There is great music and other cultural events here, probably every weekend. The public library is impressive, too.

This photo was not taken by me. And it was taken in June 2008 after a record rain, which caused much flooding in central and Southern parts of the state. Bloomington is in Southern Indiana, but not near any major rivers that I know about.

Check back this spring when I hopefully will get a chance to re-visit some of the more interesting places we went and take some good spring-time photos. In the mean-time, I'll try to spend some time writing these places up. There is much more to Bloomington than Indiana University, but eventually I'll get around to putting something about that up too. :-)

In case you're wondering what kinds of things I'll try to bring you, how about a Tibetan cultural center, a monastery and a really nice homegrown winery?
