I have booked guests here and they were very satisfied. This is 3-5 minutes from the Indiana University campus and 5 minutes from downtown Bloomington (car required).
Unique Quality: Hamptons have a free breakfast normally including hot items. I find their bedding and showers to be very nice (and they are all the same). This hotel was quoting $101 when downtown Hilton Garden Inn (with no free breakfast ) quoted $159
Directions: One block south but visible from Highway 46 at Walnut. If coming from Hwy 37 proceed to College and Walnut, turn right onto College and take the first turn around to Walnut and return to the Hampton.
In Jaunuary, 2009 I stayed here for 1 evening on a short business trip so I didn't spend much time at the hotel other then to sleep and have the buffet breakfast the next morning.
At all hours they have coffee and hot tea and usually a piece of fruit that you can enjoy. The morning breakfast buffet, although nothing very fancy, was just fine and included fruits, yogurts, muffins, cold cereal, juices, etc.
I spent two nights here when I first moved to Bloomington in October. I'm a fan of Hampton Inns for their reasonable prices and typically decent accomodations.
The Hampton Inn in Bloomington I found to be especially nice. It seemed to have new carpeting and new, very modern, furnishings. The hotel was very clean, and the staff was friendly. The breakfast bar was kept well stocked.
Unique Quality: This hotel is a stop on the Bloomington Shuttle route to and from the Indianapolis airport. This can be especially convenient if you do not plan on renting a car during your trip to Bloomington.
The only negative is that is not located directly downtown.
