Crawfordsville's Claims to Fame
by Stephen-KarenConn
Crawfordsville has several claims to fame. The most notable is that this is where General Lew Wallace, a veteran of America's Civil War, wrote his famous novel Ben-Hur. Wallace's personal library is in the heart of Crawfordsville, at the Ben-Hur Museum - a National Historic Landmark.
Also in Crawfordsville you can see the world's only operating rotary cell block, at the Old Jail Museum. It was constructed in 1882 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The scenic Sugar Creek flows through the Crawfordsville. Canoes can be rented locally for a trip down the creek , which boasts some of the country's most famous crinoid fossil beds.
