Baseball - The Fort Wayne Tin Caps

Fort Wayne hosts a Single A baseball team called the Tin Caps. They play in a new ball park (completed in 2009) in downtown Fort Wayne that can host up to 8200 people. Unlike major league baseball going to a minor league game (especially a Class A game) it is truly a family event with activities on and off the field between innings. Prices are much less then a major league game also, although the food prices are starting to approach the major league levels.

Myself and 3 other colleagues picked a beautiful night to go watch this game on a Thursday night. In fact the night we went was designated as Thirsty Thursday and you could get an 8 oz beer for $1. I only had 1 myself (not much of a beer drinker), but if you were a beer drinker it was a great night for that. Home team lost that night, but going for the experience is what I enjoyed. Besides it again beats going back to the hotel at night. For anyone reading this who is not familiar with American baseball the divisions go like this.

Major League - The highest level of the sport where the athletes make many $$$$$. My Major League team is the Chicago Cubs.
AAA or Triple A - The level just below the Majors. Players hope to get to the next level and during a season some do.
AA or Double A - The level below that
A or Single A - Usually several levels of Single A.
Rookie Leagues - Kids just drafted a shorter season

The games follow most of the same rules.

Freimann Square

Freimann Square is a small park in the middle of downtown Fort Wayne. The center piece is a large fountain and in one corner is a statue of the famous General "Mad" Anthony Wayne, who the city is named after. For art lovers, the Fort Wayne Museum of Art borders the park on the east side. Look for a plaque on the walkway between the park and the performing arts center. The plaque marks the old intersection of Barr and Columbia Streets, the place where the city of Fort Wayne got its official start.

Fort Wayne, established in the late 1700s, is the 2nd largest city in the state of Indiana.

The south side of Fort Wayne is the tightest section by far. We have the most neighborhood pride, we have the most racially/ethnically integrated neighborhood in all of Indiana, and the houses are historic, so they aren't all identical like in the suburbs! SouthSyda, reppin' tha South Side for life!!!
