State Park Family Cabins: Roughing it

by Toughluck

We've stayed in a number of state park's. The family cabins are often a great options. Some parks have cabins that are a part of the lodge system and are more like motel rooms. Still nice but not the family cabin. The Family Cabin has 1 or more bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen, dining/living room, a porch (some large, some small) and plenty of the great outdoors nearby.

State Parks with cabins include: Potawatomie SP, McCormick's Creek SP, Shakamak SP, Potato Creek SP, Whitewater SP, and Chain of Lakes SP. I've stayed at those is red and enjoyed the stay and the cabins.

State Park Cabine offer a unique chance to live in the middle of what makes the State Park unique. The woods, the wildlife, and the trails. You wake up to the sounds of wildlife on many mornings. You can have your morning coffee on the porch listening to the birds, not the freeway.

Wow! What a beautiful, historic inn in Centerville, Indiana. This inn was built in the 1830s and is fabulous! Impeccably restored, sparking clean, spacious, personal touches and the gardens are just beautiful. I didn't want to leave! Oh yes, the breasfast is first-rate.

Award-winning gardens. Outstanding restaurant withing walking distance - Palais Royal.

The Conrad Hilton: Conrad Hilton---For the Luxury Lover

by pabertra

THE HOTEL:

Nestled in the heart of downtown and connected directly to Circle Center Mall this is the place to see and be seen for all the luxury lovers amongst us. You'll be blown away by the amazing hand blown glass light fixture and all the little touches of luxury the Conrad has.

THE ROOM:

The Conrad Indianapolis' luxurious guest rooms feature a wide range of sophisticated amenities, including an over-sized work desk complete with multiple electrical outlets and T1 high-speed internet connectivity. A 42" flat screen HD plasma television graces each guest room and an additional television is located in each bathroom. The room is configured with one king bed and feature Conrad's signature upscale bedding which is unique to the brand. The marble floored bathroom includes a seperate tub and enclosed shower as well as designer bathroom products. Three telephones are available in each room, at bed side, desk and in the bathroom. The bed side phone is portable and the phones offer voice mail, speaker phone, call forwarding options, as well as direct line capabilities. Wireless keyboards are provided to access the internet complimentary, as well as personal account information. Lodgenet® TV satellite service also provides national, international, and Pay-Per-View channels.

WOW! This hotel really succeeds at the little luxuries that go such a long way in creating an unforgettable experience. The bathroom products are Nolton Brown (i.e. available for purchase at Saks), there is a lighted makeup mirror for women, complimentary robes for use, a well stocked mini bar, a turndown service with Fiji water left bedside, and even complimentary mimosas while you wait for your car to be returned from valet. The 42" plasma and bathroom TV allowed my boyfriend to watch the game, while I got ready and caught up on the news before dinner!

State Park Lodges

by Toughluck

Every state park lodge/inn includes a restaurant. It is common for complete strangers to join in conversation.
Brown County State Park - Abe Martin Lodge Abe Martin Lodge is the oldest lodge in the system. There are numerous cabins also available
McCormick's Creek State Park - Canyon Inn
Canyon Inn is another old inn. Brick and block construction has been updated and additional rooms added in the same style. The building looks over a wooded ravine and hosts numerous bird feeders around the restaurant, where you can have dinner with the birds.
Clifty Falls State Park - Clifty Inn
The original Inn burned in the 70's, so this is an entirely new structure. The inexpensive rooms, are located on a parking court. The inside halls are onesided with windows on the other looking out. The deluxe rooms overlooks the Ohio River valley and every room has a balcony.
Pokagon State Park - Potawatomi Inn
Renovated in 2000, the Potawatomi Inn is very nice with pleasant rooms and sitting areas that look out over the lake. The restaurant overlooks the lake and is a pleasant place to watch the sun go down. Inn also has some family cabins located across the park.
Spring Mill State Park - Spring Mill Inn
Located on a bluff overlooking the valley with Spring Mill. You can walk to the historic town, but the uphill return can be tiring.
Turkey Run State Park - Turkey Run Inn
Turkey Run SP is west of Indianapolis. The Lodge is a stone building with interior log beams nestled in the woods. A few cabins serve as remote motel rooms just west of the building.
Fort Harrison State Park - The Fort Golf Resort and Conference Center
Have not had a chance to stay here. It is located in the Officer's Quarters of Fort Benjamin Harrison.

State Park Inns are wonderful places because they are in the middle of what makes the State Park unique. The woods, the wildlife, and the trails. You wake up to the sounds of wildlife on many mornings. Outside your window is not a strip mall of motels, restaurants and gift shops, no -------. It's trails, clouds, trees, and people having fun. Meals are just a short walk down the hall. Always a wonderful atmosphere with views out every window.

The Leavenworth Inn: Lovely inn with a view

by katgrl82

We spent a night at this cozy inn that overlooks the Ohio River. The inn consists of 3 smaller buildings and the main house. There are walking trails that connect the buildings together amoung the lovely gardens throughout the grounds. Our room was very clean and beautifully decorated. All the rooms throughout the inn have a mix of lovely anitques with modern conviences. There are fresh baked cookies available as well as a library full of books and movies. The inn also has a tennis court and bikes available for guests' use. In the morning coffee and orange juice are avaialbe and the rate includes a coupon for breakfast at the Overlook restaurant just down the street. The Overlook has delicous food(try the pancakes) and a wonderful view of the river. We definately want to visit this inn again.

Wonderful views, beautiful, yet warm and cozy decor.

Spring Mill Inn: Located in a beautiful park

by phildeni

Wonderful facilities, and base for long walks in the beautiful Indiana park.

Abe Martin Lodge: Abe Martin Lodge

by dlandt

Located on Hwy 46 just 17 miles from I-65, the Abe Martin Lodge is nestled deep inside Brown County State Park. They offer a lodge and cabins in a quiet, sylvan setting. Its a good way to enjoy the forest without the bugs and with running water and electricity. A room in the lodge is $86 dollars, a cabin is $51.

At night the dear come t the salt lick. They have a small outdoor chapel and easily affordable cabins. There are hiking trails surrounding the facility, and within one mile you have swimming and horseback riding. Down the road is the picturesque town of Nashville.

Tip Photo
Hampton Inn: Hampton Inn

by poshprincess

Approx. $75 per room per night

This place is right in the center of Corydon so there are plenty of things to do. This hotel has an indoor pool and an indoor hot tub, which is conveniently located right next to a workout room.
