Travel Tips for Indianapolis

Clean and modern

by KaiM

Somehow I was really impressed by the Indianapolis downtown area. It was really clean. I have rarely seen such a clean downtown area in the US. No trash on the roads. Another thing I liked: the traffic lights. Most of them have a countdown. You can see a display with the seconds counting down. The last couple of seconds before the traffic light turns red are flashing. I have never seen this before and really enjoyed crossing streets in the downtown area :)

Bloomington, IN - If you are...

by djramey

Bloomington, IN - If you are interested in a jaunt out of the city of Indianapolis for a day, why not look south to the home of the Hoosiers - Indiana University. Indiana's best-known university is renowned for it's schools of Music and Theatre, as well as the traditions of Indiana. The state of Indiana is known as the home of basketball, and there is no other place in the world that holds this tradition than Bloomington. You will also find productions from many styles of music and acting. Only a 45-minute drive from I-465 on Highway 37, Bloomington boasts some of the most beautiful scenery in the state. During the fall months you will find possibly the most beautiful array of leaves and tree colors anywhere in the United States. When in Bloomington, check out Kirkwood Avenue on the heart of the Indiana Campus. Kirkwood is the Mecca of Bloomington’s artists, shoppers, drinkers, and partiers. The students of IU are proud of their school, and most chose it because of its rich traditions. Bloomington is a place you will not want to miss when traveling to Indiana, and that's a promise.

The best Chocolate on the Circle!

by staindesign about Southbend Chocolate Factory

This place is fantastic! One side of the store is a deli and the other side is a coffee shop with a candy store. They have out door seating in the summer and the fall. It is right on the circle so you can do some great people watching. The chocolates are pretty expensive, but they are delicious. Plus the store looks very cute in the front because of all of the different ways they have for boxing the chocolates in decorative boxes. I love the hot chocolate, it is very chocolately and it is topped with whipped cream, cho. syrup, cho. shavings, and a cherry. In my opinion, a small will do you, because of the chocolate intensity. Small $1.93 w? tax. I love the chocolates there too. I always get the Cho. Haystacks, which are cho. with coconut. 2 pieces = $1.30 w/ tax. They have everything from turtles, to toffee, to chocolate covered cherries and chocolate covered blue berries!

Brickyard 400 (NASCAR Race)

by descolada99

NASCAR came to Indy and it has been a huge success. The Brickyard 400 has become one of the top two events on the NASCAR schedule (only second to the Daytona 500). There's plenty going on in town in the weekor so before the race.

NCAA Hall of Champions

by djramey

The NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) Hall of Champions is the hall of fame of all college and university sports. In the United States, college sports are more than a sport, they are a pastime. A pastime playing and probably more so, a pastime watching from home on cold nights during basketball season or even cooler afternoons of college football.

This Hall of Champions was moved to Indianapolis after the NCAA moved to the city in 2000. With the NCAA national headquarters located in this city, known as the amateur sports capital of the world, US$10 million was set to build this facinating Hall. In the Great Hall visitors can view banners of the current champions in all 87 NCAA sports. A 1920's gymnasium is on the second floor which gives visitors a view of various sporting equipments. 25,000 square feet of space allows visitors ample space to view various exhibits.
