travelling to airport

by beetylittleleebug

Dear all,

I am a Singaporean going to travel to Indianapolis in July for a conference. I was just wondering how much would it cost to take a cab from near the University of Indianapolis to the airport at about 4am in the morning? Do your cabs run in the morning? If not what is the best way I could get to the airport to catch a 6am flight from indianapolis to cleveland?

Re: travelling to airport

The distance is about 14 miles. Taxis run 24-hours a day, but at that hour, finding one on the street may take some patience. Call the taxi company and they will send a car to your location at no extra cost.

Time will be about 20 minutes. Cost might be $35 (fare is increased during late hours)

Travel Tips for Indianapolis

Irvington Historic District

by Toughluck

Irvington is an area of antique shops, old neighborhoods, stylish old churches and Dufours Restaurant. It's a wonderful sandwich shop that my daughter liked to visit. Right on Washington Street (old US 40, Historic National Road). Here, you can do a little shopping and walk through the older neighborhoods. The area changes from block to block, so I would recommend this as a lunchtime place or early afternoon.

Irvington Historic District is the largest National Register District on the Historic National Road. This historic district was once the site of Butler University. Today the area is a historic residential district of homes built in the 1920s.

RCA Dome

by grkboiler

The RCA Dome, formerly the Hoosier Dome and more commonly known as simply, "The Dome", is the home of the Indianapolis Colts football team. Other events common to the Dome are NCAA basketball, high school football, concerts, and expos.

The Dome is one of only 6 air-supported domed stadiums around the world. It opened in 1984 and has a capacity of around 60,000 (40,000 for basketball). The floor surface for football is AstroTurf.

Parking is very easy to find. There are lots all around the Dome and parking garages nearby. The Dome is within walking distance to many downtown hotels and restaurants. Unfortunately, traffic flow out of the area is terrible after games.

See the website for a calendar of events. The number below is to the RCA Dome ticket office.

Dinner with a View!

by staindesign about Roof top Garden

This is located on top of the Fountain Square Theatre Building. The roof top garden cafe is on the top of this building and the shelby Street Cafe is on the street level of the building, both are the same food. I would describe it as American Euro bistro style. They have an amazing crab cake sandwich, definitely check it out! But the reason why i think the Roof top is the best, is because at night the view is great! And it is big, so once you get there you don't have to worry whether or not you will get a table. I am sure the wait isn't very long at all. Plus if you go on a friday night, you can go into the theatre for a swing dance lesson at 7.30pm and then dance the night away to a live Swing Band. The cost is $12 with the lesson and $10 for just dancing. And on the 4th floor they created hotel suites. They are each decorated differently and can be rented by contacting them ahead of time like any hotel. Being from out of town, it could be convient to stay there after swing dancing. The menu changes when the season, and obviously the Roof Top isn't open during the Winter!

Indianapolis Motor Speedway

by indianajoe

The famous Indy 500 race in May and lots of other activities during the month, like the parade and the Mini-Marathon. If you are not here during the race, visit the Speedway Museum at the track and take a ride around the track. Also there is the Brickyard 400 stock car race in August and soon there will be Formula One racing, too.

Indiana State Fair

by sticki

Indiana at its most cliche. Square-dancing, Marching Band Day, livestock, and deep fried candy bars. If nothing else, it's good people-watching. The Fair runs every year around late-August, but there's almost always something going on within the Fairgrounds all year round. I avoid the livestock areas at all costs (with the exception of a morbidly curious peek at the Worlds Largest Hog), but some people are into that kind of thing, I guess. The rides are a little lame, but the big ferris wheel is nice on a clear summer night. Most people really only go for the food. My required fair fare: lemon shake-up, corn on the cob, and an elephant ear (preferrably with cherries).
