Travel Tips for Indianapolis

Packing List

by Scottyj36

Indianapolis has all 4 seasons. If you come in November-early April you will need winter clothes and boots for rain and sometime snow. Summer is hot, fall and spring are the most pleasent times to be here. No special needed. All available here. Everything you need you can buy here. No beaches here, so no beach ware.

Games and Drinks

by djramey about Jillian's

Though I typically like video games and I like drinking, this particular Jillians did not impress me very much. In the heart of the nightclub district in downtown Indianapolis, Jillians offers a somewhat more sporty and active atmosphere than do the other bars in the area.

Surrounded by dance clubs, Irish pubs and live music halls, Jillians brings in the somewhat older and more sporty crowd. The people like the idea of not having to dress to impress I assume. Jillians offers bowling, video games and a dance club on the upper level. It also has numerous private party rooms with billiards.

However, either it was the night or the bar, I did not have to much fun here. Though I liken a low key bar opposed to a dance club, this just was dead and the games expensive and boring. Perhaps if I went with other people it could be more entertaining. They do have a dress code but it is very lax. No torn cloathing obviously but you need not where suit and tie or your latest fashion trends, though they are more than welcome.

Good gathering place for comfort food

by gkitzmil about Jonathan Byrd's Cafeteria

This is a gathering place for large events. This is not "find dining" but for a gathering of 10-30 family members or some group this works well. We went with family where little kids needed to run around. This is a perfect venue at 5:00 PM for space without bothering other diners.

Has Bragging rights as the World's largest cafeteria.

The owner is into hotels in Arizona, racing, and radio in Indianapolis, Fried chicken, nicely spiced and not too greasy. They have a "ginny dish" of one entree, two side orders, and bread for about $7.49 to $7.99 which is a real bargain for certain meats.

They offered meatloaf (an American tradition), chicken and noodles, fish, roast beef and more. This is the kind of food Grandma would make years ago if in the MidWest US you visited on Sunday.

Observatory at the Soldiers & Sailors Monument

by sambarnett

At 231 feet, you wouldn't think the observation deck of the Soldier and Sailors Monument would offer much in the way of views, considering it is surrounded by a number of skyscrapers. But the views are surprisingly good, and it is easy to pick out the various Indy landmarks. You'll also get a sense just how flat the land is around these parts.

Climb the 330 steps up or buy a ticket ($1) for the elevator. I recomend the elevator.

Jumping in Indianapolis

by jumpingnorman

Jose was asking questions about Japan on the Travel Forum and I found some jumping pictures on his myspace website! I asked if I could have them in the jumping galleries and he responded on Feb 28, 2010 22:00:
