just say HI
I grew up in this city and most people are friendly. Do not be surprised if someone smiles at you on the street. Still.. you will see homeless people and beggers but the city is mostly clean and nice. So just be friendly.

Check out an architectural salvage store. I love rummaging through these types of stores.
In Indy, Tim & Avi's (whatever happened to Billy) is the best. They are located at 2442 N Central (SW corner of E 25th St and Central Ave) in Indianapolis, IN 46202.
This resturant is pretty much like every other mexican resturant, the difference is that the staff is great. My Mom and I have been coming here for a few years. They are really great to regulars, often when they are trying something new for the menu they bring some for us to try. They always try to get my mom to speak spanish, but she is always confused! My mom and I always get the Enchilladas del Golfo. The is a wonderful enchillada stuffed with grilled veggies, shrimp, and scallops. (i don't like the scallops, so they let me get just shrimp). And it comes with rice, but usually we just get beans. On top they put a cheese sauce and salsa verde. I really like it, and the salsa is good that they serve with chips. It is always fresh and chunky!
Soldiers Sailors Monument which is smack dab in the middle of the city. Besides a race car this is the most reconizable emblem of Indianapolis is 284 feet tall and surmountedby a 30 foot statue of Miss Victory. It is completly consturcted of Indiana limestone and fetures exterior historical and mythological statues. The memorial was origionally dedicated in 1902 but underwent a major restoration the late 80's which I remember quite well because I was unable to take my college room mate who was from Japan to see it.
Guide a paddle boat. Jog. Stroll. Visit museums. See fountains. See a steam powered clock.
There are a host of things to do along this wonderful restored canal. My great-great grandfather formerly patrolled this area as a cop.
