Go to a small Italian...
Go to a small Italian restaurant in Beech Grove (southside of Indianapolis). It's right off Main Street and has pretty nice cuisine. It's very quaint and almost never busy but has very good service and a nice setting too.

Is Indianapolis a town for twenty somethings or is it more of an older, family-type town? Can anyone who lives there tell me the advantages and disadvantages of the city?
Why not move to Europe instead of staying in USA? Just a thought......
In my recent trips to Indy I've noticed more and more twenty-somethings making their presence known, tho for the most part the city still has a reputation as a place where the streets roll up after work.
It depends on your tastes really. It's not the first place I'd want to live (overall it's a bit staid) but parts of the city are very pleasant. The Broad Ripple area is really cool, LOTS of bars and clubs with cool dive bars right next pretentious clubs and everything in between. And the peeps seem pretty genuine, mellow and friendly. My friends moved down there recently (from the Chicago area) and they do like it, but they occasionally complain that it lacks the gritty excitement of larger cities.
Indianapolis is a vibrant, cultured, safe, and energetic Midwestern city. There is a good nightlife, an abundance of arts and culture, a decent amount of diversity, and many other aspects that would appeal to twenty-somethings.
Of course, Indianapolis is not as exciting, large, or diverse as New York, Chicago, or L.A. But, it is a much more accessible city than three places--meaning it is easier to get around and more affordable, so if you want to get to a nightclub, a live performance, or an art show--you have a better opportunity of getting there, getting in, and being able to afford it.
Indianapolis is definitely a more family-centered city, and it is more conservative than either of the three big cities I mentioned, or places like San Francisco. However, most people are accepting of different people and very friendly. If you want to go out of your way to find ignorant and narrow-minded folks in the city, then you can, but I think those people generally keep to themselves and leave everyone else alone.

The canal walk is a somewhat hidden aspect of Indianapolis. Located on the west side of downtown, it winds it way from the White River northward past several landmarks. The canal walk also provides the easiest access to the USS Indianapolis memorial, thought to be the last US ship sank in World War II. The canal walk provides a nice, peaceful place to get some exercise or leisurely stroll.
The Old Spaghetti Factory is a chain restaurant that is mostly located on the west coast, with only a few locations east of the state of Colorado. The food was OK compared to other upscale Italian chains. Its nothing special. If you want an Italian chain restaurant while in town, head to Buca di Beppo.

The Old Washington Street Bridge is a pedestrian bridge that crosses over the White River in downtown Indianapolis. The Sculpture in the Park program rotates in and out sculptures from various artists along the bridge. I'm a big fan of public art and I probably spent about an hour on the bridge before I moved on.
On Saturday afternoon, Apri 2, 2005, Jill and I were quite busy visiting a museum, the zoo, but we took time out to do the White River State Park which is an easy walk from downtown.
First, we visited the Pumphouse Visitor Center which was build in 1870 (five years after the end of the Civil War. Go there to gather material, information, and maps. Then walk west (left) to the bridge that takes you over White River
At the far end of the bridge to the right you will see the Zoo. Adjacent to the zoo is the White River Gardens Botanical Showcase that is open year round.
Take the River Promenade, a 1/2 mile walkway made up of 1,200 blocks of Indiana limestone. 14 of these stones have carved renderings of famous buildings in the United States that are constructed of Indiana Limestone.
You'll pass the NCAA Hall of Champions which you may wish to visit. You need to know that this is a new version of the Central Canal for strolling. The original one was built in 1836.
Now, cross over the footbridge.
The Congressional Medal of Honor Memorial with 27 curved walls of glass each between 7-10 feet high. These represent the conflicts in the world where the Congressional Medal was given. There are 410 medal winner's names and recorded stories.
Next is the Eiteljorg Museum (Indian and South Western Art). See it in another tip.
The Indiana State Museum is also here.
A memorial to the U.S.S. Indianapolis (the legendary World War II flagship that was sunk by ta Japanese torpedo 2 weeks before the war ended) was dedicated in 1995 and is here too.
This area is a 10 1/2 block area between 11th Street & Washington streets that has undergone a multimillion renovation and extended into the park.
It's really quite beautiful.
