Vroom Vroom!!

I grew up just three miles from the third turn, my dad having worked in public relations for USAC; his father having been a professional race driver. I traveled with Dad many weekends of many summers to many different tracks, but Indy always felt like it was "mine". You can never tell what the month of May will be like in Indy. Could be cold and wet, could be warm and dry. Going to the track, bring comfortable clothing for the weather, and maybe a seat cushion.
Great Music... enjoyed by those 25 - 85...
by gkitzmil about Rathskeller
The Rathskeller is a special place. When I entered this bar in about 1973 it was a German club and we only drank beer. When I came back in the late 1990's WOW -- it has been transformed to a hopping club where many of all ages hear music four nights a week.
The German-Renaissance Revival Style building is a massive brick structure, designed by Vonnegut and Bohn. Of particular importance are the elaborate ornamentation in some of the brick facade and the gables that face to the south. It contains ballrooms, restaurants, gardens, a rathskeller with a large fireplace, dining halls, meeting rooms, gymnasium, biergarten, band shell and a scholossgarten complete with banners and animal heads providing an Olde World atmosphere. Stained glass windows show elements of music and recreation - horns, harps, cymbals and bowling pins were imported from Germany. It is the only 9th-century cultural center remaining in the city. I don't show up ANYWHERE that has a dress coat. I don't wear jeans ever but I rarely wear a tie! From modern blues, to rock, to acoustic, to rock+polka you can dance your A$$ off here.

Indianapolis is full of historical architecture. Many of the cities iner-city neighborhoods are featured as historical places and are well worth visiting. Raditaing about 2 miles fgrom the circle, and some further, are various historical landmarks such as the historical woodruff place with some of the cities most historical residential houses. Indianapolis is a great place to visit if you are interested in old but excitimg places.
The Indianapolis Artsgarden
by pourparafor
The beautiful glasshouse hovers one floor up from the corner of Washington and Illinois Street. The Artsgarden is attached to The Circle Centre mall. Bring your lunch here or bring it from the food court. It is a nice place to rest and enjoy the view. The Artsgarden has a ticket booth to purchase tickets to events in the arts around town or ask questions. FREE exibitions and performances are held here also.
Indy - The other side of the Speedway
by DSwede
I went to college not far from Indy. Having said that, many of my friends were from the area and I had many chances to come and visit. I used to make commutes to the city for many reasons.
Like many people, I had an opportunity to watch the Indy 500 race. It was definitely a unique experience. The speed and sounds, regardless if you think you are prepared for them, will still manage to surpass your conceptions. But I usually stayed far away from Indy during race times. The congestion, cost, chaos and heat usually won the argument for keeping my distance.
I have enjoyed some basketball games there, enjoyed the old Union Station, and the natural parks. Indy is a small city, but wonderfully green and easy to feel comfortable.
