Martinsville; the land of John Wooden
"Where the John Wooden saga began"
This is the high school gymnasium where a young John Wooden played varsity basketball, leading his team to the Indiana State Championship. But that was just the beginning. From here he would become a coach at Indiana State, then UCLA. At UCLA he would win ten national championships, including seven in a row. But the manner in which he did all this is what sets him apart. Always humble, always accomodating, he brought his midwestern values into the heart of Los Angeles, did not change them, and made them work on the west coast. John Wooden lived 99 years and 8 months, passing away in 2010.
