Golden Dome at Notre Dame

Here is a shot of the Golden Dome at the University of Notre Dame. It is made out of real gold! The dome serves as a symbol for the campus and is not to be missed if you're visiting the campus. It is located in the heart of the campus.
Christmas Town

New Carlisle lies west of South Bend on U.S. 20. Don't be fooled into taking U.S. 12, which is the bigger road, it's a narrow 2 lane road that winds westward out of South Bend. It's worth the trip. In New Carlisle, you'll find the Village Shops, a collection historic street front buildings filled with holiday home furnishings and gifts. If all you spend is an hour, you'll find it well worth the trip.
See my New Carlisle page (web site listed below) for more information on the shops and restaurants in New Carlisle.
New York Central Union Station

An interesting brickwork pattern and a rounded barrel arch roof compliment this 1929 Art Deco station well. Located between the Studebaker comlex and Coveleski Stadium, the station no longer serves passengers but it is in lovely shape.
Notre Dame

"Fighting Irish"
My son and I took a trip to Ohio last week. Along the way we noticed that we would go through South Bend, home of Notre Dame. We decided to drive through the campus.
It seemed like a very modern and clean campus to us. It was cool to see "touchdown Jesus" and the gold dome. A person watches a lot of football during the fall and Notre Dame always semms to be on.
"Football Hall Of Fame"
I noticed that the newly opened Football Hall Of Fame is located in South Bend too.
I didn't have the time to stop but that would be a fun and interesting thing to do if you were in the area.
"Cemetery"
It was interesting that there was a cemetery right on campus as soon as you drove in. Not unusual for Catholics.

"Here Come The Irish!"
If you're a college football fan, at some point in your life you need to spend a Saturday in the Fall at the University of Notre Dame - whether you love the Irish or hate the Irish, you need to live this experience. I have memories of brautwurst being grilled beneath my Badin Hall window at 8am....of alumni coming back in their blue & gold (and bright green pants).....of the 1992 "Snow Bowl" against Penn State....of seeing my grandfather follow the band on their march from the steps of the dome to the stadium....of tears of joy after upsetting FSU one week and tears of sorrow after losing to BC the next....This is Notre Dame....
We Are....ND!
"Alma Mater"
Notre Dame, Our Mother
Tender, strong and true,
Proudly in the heavens,
Gleams the Gold and Blue,
Glory's Mantle cloaks thee,
Golden is thy fame,
And our hearts forever,
Praise thee, Notre Dame
And our hearts forever,
Love thee, Notre Dame.
"Why They Call Us Domers"
This is the Administration Building, also known as the Golden Dome.
Yes, the gold is real.
